Good Direct Drives You can do what I did when I wanted to add a new current TT to my collection of vintage TT's. I bought the Pioneer PLX1000 and a Denon 103R mc cartridge. $700 + $300. This is an affordable and excellent sounding combination! I am quite happy with ...
We Need A Separate Forum for Fuses Send me a couple and I will try them out!
Now, I'm confused. Anybody remember the AudioPulse reverberation device? It allowed one to dial in various settings: "small club" all the way up to "cathedral"! It contained a two-channel amp to be connected to a pair of speakers behind the listener. And it gave sur...
Now, I'm confused. All recordings are artificial and many (particularly multi-tracked rock and rap) are far from the "sound of musicians playing in a room"! What many prize in a stereo system as "soundstage" is often an illusion caused by wall and floor reflections!
Two Type of sound and listener preference are there more? "Musicality" is the refuge of the willfully ignorant!
Little Blue Light - Folly? Yes or no.. The "little blue light" can easily be tricked and therefore is NOT a guarantee of authenticity! As claimed by the proponents of MQA. See FredericV's posts (Feb 20) on the Computer Audiophile site.
MAKING THE JUMP ... From Inherited Speakers to the right choice < 2K Price I recommend a pair of Ohm Walsh Sound Cylinders. They will produce a 3-D image from anywhere in the room and sound superior to ANY box speaker! I own a pair and speak from experience!
Now, I'm confused. For the most life-like sound in any room the Ohm Walsh's beat the competition hands down! I have a pair and they do indeed produce a 3-D image superior to any box speaker. And from ANY spot in the room - uncanny! Mine are the Sound Cylinders.
Now, I'm confused. 213runnin: And that silver content of the Morrow cables is good for killing werewolves!
Now, I'm confused. Regarding fuses and speaker wire - neither will give you an improvement in sound quality - regardless of what the "golden ears" crowd says! I have been in this hobby for 40+ years and am appalled by the level of "magical" thinking about wire (and ...
Now, I'm confused. +1 mattmiller! Changing to an Adcom GFP565 preamp would be a beneficial upgrade! I also think that your phono cartridge (unspecified) is a limiting factor. I have found mc cartridges to be superior to mm types. I recommend a Denon 103R as a very g...
Question for tube aficionados Cheap present day 12a*7 types will never equal the sound quality and lifespan of vintage types!
Question for tube aficionados Vintage pre-1970 GE, RCA, Sylvania, Mullard and Telefunken are still the best made and sounding of the 12a*7 types! Far better (and longer lasting) than present day production! That is why they command high prices!
MQA•Foolish New Algorithm? Vote! See FredericV's posts on the Computer Audiophile site. The best technical- oriented exposition of the pro's and con's of MQA! Mrs. Atkinson and Harley should read it! "Little blue light" indeed!
MC phono cartridge lifespan (when not using) Put it in a jar with a screw cap lid and keep in a cool, dark place - like vitamins! |
