Amp for VA Beethoven
Find an Ayre V-3, they go used for $1100 or so--sounds fantastic with Beethovens, I owned the combo for couple of years.
Best Recording of Solo Tambourine
Only instrument playing is a solo tambourine? Can't help you there.
ProAc Studio 140's or Response D15's?
I have the D15's, used to have the 1SC's, I'd say either will work in your room without a sub. You don't need one even with the 1SC.
The CD you most listened to back in 2007 ?
Mavis Staples, We'll Never Turn Back. Also the Alison Krass and Robert Plant album.I just love both of these.
Need Speakers at least 4 feet high
Great choice Springbok; can you post any pictures of the speakers on the 6" stands? I want to see how massive the stands had to be and how the speakers look on them. Maybe you could create a Virtual System with pix? Thanks!
Experience with the NAD M5.......
I have to disagree with the above posters. I recently bought the M5 to try with SACD's and think it sounds excellent. Build quality is first rate as well, the unit looks very classy unlike typical NAD gear. I hear lots of detail and good separatio...
Where are the female Audiophiles?
Thanks for the offers guys but we'd inevitably fight about whose gear sounds better and what CD/record to play!
Where are the female Audiophiles?
I'm a female audiophile too and have engaged in the kind of gear swapping/upgrading typical of males in the hobby. I've slowed down a bit in that department because I finally know what I like and have found gear that works for me. A crucial fact f...

I am interested in upgrading my late 80's system?
Whatever you do, DON'T get rid of those DM110 speakers! I used to have those in the 80s too and they are great speakers esp for what little money you would get for them now. I gave mine to a friend for her home gym and they are still firing away m...
Brand preference and opinions
If I was looking for best resale value in high-performing equipment, I would look at: McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Ayre, Shindo, and Audio Research. All have very high resale value and sound great in many kinds of systems.
Rich; organic true balanced amp w good detail $6k
Sutts, if you have the opportunity to audition some Ayre amps, listen to whatever the dealer has on hand. I think you will find they are ALL excellent. The $$$ MX-R monoblocks are incredible but out of most people's price range. The stereo amps V5...
Can someone help me choose speakers
Have you tried/heard any of Linn's floorstanders? Some of the older models (the 5140, for instance, or the Ninka--both available used for great prices), have incredible pace and rhythm, and sound better to me than their current line of extremely "...
Rich; organic true balanced amp w good detail $6k
Sutts, you should also consider Ayre amps, fully balanced and lots of power for the low end, yet gorgeous "tubelike" sound. I have owned only the V3 but was extremely impressed with its performance on a no. of different speakers. Now I use the ARC...
