An audio component you just can't let go
@lalitk Shindo has always intrigued me but have never had a chance to listen. I’ve been to quite a few shows but Shindo is not something you commonly find there. Would like to have a listen some day .
An audio component you just can't let go
Some good responses so far and some interesting ones too! I recently moved and was faced with downsizing my equipment. A few pieces I decided to hold on to even though it's no longer in use are: Audio Valve Eclipse pre and Challenger mono amps:...
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
@lalitk the SUT I experimented with is a modestly priced vintage Japanese unit, Fidelity Research FRT-4, it's been mentioned here quite a few times. Not saying it's the best or anything but I'm impressed with how it plays with my cartridges and I'...
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
@lewm I know it sounds that way but I’ve had several high gain phono stages in here over the last 15 years, they do sound different from each other and some are better than other for sure. But it took just one SUT to make me realize that it provid...
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
My recent experience with SUT is similar to that of Steve Guttenberg. I was so impressed with how much improvement a modestly priced SUT brought to my system that I questioned why I lived without one for the last fifteen years. SUT is the way to g...
Lumin D2 or Aurender N100H
I use a D2 and don't love the Lumin app and user interface. If you're buying D2 to be used as a streamer, then no. The Wolfson DAC in it does sound very good though. I have the D2 connected to a tube stage and it has further enhanced my enjoyment ...
Magico speakers too clinical and fatiguing?
Magicos are revealing speakers, but that's not a bad thing! It's easy to make a Magico system sound warm by matching it with tubes or warm-sounding SS amplification or, if you're like me, using many analog sources. IMO, better to have revealing s...
Dan D'Agostino Pendulum Intergrated review
@hifimaniac thanks for sharing. Where does Pendalum sit in the D’AGOSTINO hierarchy and any mention of what’s coming next in the Pendalum line?
Reel to Reel Machine for 15 ips playback
@chauncey I currently have an Ampex ATR-102 and two Studers in my system. I have owned many of the highly regarded Prosumer machines capable of of playing back newly released tapes such as the Technics RS-1520, Tascam BR20, Otari MX5050B2, Revox ...
How are you getting your surround sound?
That sounds awesome! How are you getting your 4K movies on the AppleTV? Trying to determine if most people stream their movies now or still popping in a disc.
How are you getting your surround sound?
Thanks for the information, I'll check out what's available on Amazon and Apple.
How are you getting your surround sound?
Thank you for the responses. I assume "ripped" means it's still coming from a disc and ripped onto your PC/Harddrive for storage.@ghdprentice when you stream through Apple and Amazon, are you able to get your movies with 4K video and discrete Dolb...
Tracking error or ??
@daveyf I just got through listening to the second side of Way Out West with my Lyra Kleos SL and heard no distortion as what you're describing. If the arm and cartridge sounds good with everything else it's very likely just a bad/worn pressing, v...
Thoughts on VAC preamplifiers to drive D’Agostino power amplifiers? Thoughts?
@audiobrian I've been using D'Agostino Classic Stereo amp with a tube preamp for a few years and the result is excellent, but my preamp is not a VAC. I recommend sending an email to VAC asking if D'Agostino is compatible with your specific model p...
Woodsong Garrard 301, Artisan Fidelity 301, Shindo 301, SME 301, or etc.?
@dover My 401 sits in a 6-layer ply Macassar Ebony gloss plinth. The platter is a machined finish version from Peak Hifi and I use an Audio Silente idler wheel. I’m very satisfied with the performance I’m getting and the 6 layer plinth is the perf...
