Incredible Audiophile Imaging -- at a Concert!
I am not so sure I would ever consider that "audiophile imaging" could be reproduced with amplifiers and sound reinforcement speakers, at a live concert.   Here in LA, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, we used to have these free classical ...
DIY Speaker Kits, a good idea?
As a long time DIY’s, I would say that kits are an excellent way to go.  From a sonic standpoint, the end results well end up sounding like a commercially available speaker at several times the price (5X is not unusual.  That difference will dro...
Seeking a new loudspeaker, horn, single driver, concentric or open baffle
@erik_squires    You know, you are sounding experimental and creative right now.   What about a DIY build in any of those categories?  Check out Madisound, Meniscus and Parts Express for ideas.  You can build 3 different types of speakers for ...

@mahgister    Is Monteverdi 8th book of madrigals, all Gesualdo and  Josquin Des Prez   are boring or correspond to your definition ? For me there is no relation between genius and chronological time ?   Those composers you mention, are not...
Let's talk music, no genre boundaries
@audio-b-dog    I could not make a list like @simonmoon of the musical attributes that appeal to me.  Szymanowski’s Symphonie Concertante. It sounded "experimental" enough (although probably a hundred years old) to be on @simonmoon’s list. D...
Let's talk music, no genre boundaries
@saugertiesbob  God, I wish I had half the time you all have to come up with these thread topics that generate thousands of hours of down the rabbit hole minutia, Maybe when I’m retired and have done everything else I plan to and literally find ...

@johnnotkathi  Yes, Riverside is a very good modern prog band.  Although their latest recording didn't so much for me.
CD's or Vinyl?
@jl35    Based on "rumours" I did some research - current estimates are that 30-50% of LP buyers do not own a turntable - they are buying LP like some buy books simply to decoratively fill a bookcase or record shelf...   However, this is a ...
CD's or Vinyl?
As much as I enjoy vinyl, I would have to go with CD's. For me, the sound quality is on par, or better, than vinyl. And I own fairly high end vinyl and digital playback systems.  But my main reason may be, I am in the constant search and discove...
Let's talk music, no genre boundaries
Sometimes I feel as if I am a bit unique on various music forums I post on, because I have almost zero nostalgic feelings  connected to music.  Once I reached about the age of 20, music stopped being the "soundtrack to my life", and became someth...

@toddalin    Bring back Progressive Rock!  I don’t think there is anything like Gentle Giant anymore.  Gotta be one of my all time favorites. https://youtu.be/ifRnVEkqB2I   What do mean "bring BACK progressive rock"? Progressive music has ...
Klipsch and Capacitors
Oh! Not sure who this slipped my mind, but this speaker company has prebuilt replacement crossovers, ready to go, in 3 different levels of improvement.  But even the lowest level (Copper level) is better than the Ebay kit.    Crites Klipsch Cr...
Klipsch and Capacitors
At the very least, any electrolytics should be replaced. Even unused, they age and will no longer meet tolerance. Not to mention, that electrolytic caps just don't sound good.   But, as one who has upgraded more vintage, and not so vintage speak...
Let's talk music, no genre boundaries
I have certain criteria that I love in music. If music does not have most or all of those criteria, I find it uninteresting, emotionally and/or intellectually. And it's not like I made a conscious decision to only like music that meet those criter...
Eyes open or closed?
Usually, eyes opened in a lighted, or sometimes, a dimmed, but not dark room.  For me, the image and soundstage on my system, is so well defined, closing my eyes does not help enhance the illusion at all.
