Contemporary Classical Composers - new discoveries
Currently living composers: Beat Furrer (Swiss Austrian) born 1954. A relativity recent discovery of mine. So far, I like everything I’ve heard.
Your Not-So-Obvious Best Fidelity LPs
I have often sung the praises of a series of recordings made by Nonesuch back in the 70's. Some are called "Spectrum New American Music".  These recordings are quite amazing with regards to soundstage, imaging and the preproduction of other spati...
Contemporary Classical Composers - new discoveries
This topic is right up my alley! The vast majority of classical music I listen to is from post 1950's, up through the present era. Although I love the 2nd Viennese School: Schoenberg, Berg, Webern. I tend to like the 'thorny' sounding stuff, so,...
Does a record player make that much of a difference??
Let me add, that last year, my rich audiophile cousin upgraded his TT from a Clear Audio Ovation, to a Kronos Pro, using the same arm, cartridge, phono stage.  And there was most certainly a substantial improvement.
Does a record player make that much of a difference??
The phono cartridge, and the phono stage may make the most sonic difference, but the TT is more important. If the TT is not doing its job correctly (spinning at the correct speed, suppressing airborne and vibrational noise, ’sinking’ record and m...
DSP Active Crossover
I've heard several systems with the mini DSP, and have been unimpressed.  I've also heard several very high end DSP systems, including the Kyron. And that system kills! Even Mr. analog, Michael Fremer loves it. But my overall evaluation is, that...
High quality recordings any genre
Back in the 70’s, the label Nonesuch released a series of contemporary classical music, many are under the title, Spectrum New American music. The surprising thing is, this was a budget label. But universally, the quality of these is pretty amaz...
Feet One-o-0ne
@russ69  Most loudspeakers are designed to work in a conventional living environment. I wonder if your room treatments caused a lot of your extra work?  They may be designed to work well in conventional living environments, does not mean they ...
High quality recordings any genre
Obviously, if one sticks to audiophile labels, the recordings will tend to be of superior quality, But there are also plenty of labels that are not specifically considered audiophile labels that have very good sound quality.  The jazz label, ECM...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
This is from last night’s listening session: Shadowfax - Watercourse Way / most people think of this band as a ’new age’ band, but their 1st release was pure intense prog. Not new age at all. They only went in the new age direction when they sign...
Please recommend King Crimson albums…
One of my all time favorite bands! I love them in all their various incarnations. My favorite albums happen to be the ones that @berner99 is referring to as "nasty stuff": Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, and Red. I love angula...
My favorite classical recordings
I am only into 20th century classical, almost exclusively music from post WWII, to the present, which I know not everyone's cup of tea, but I will certainly take part in this thread. I'll start with the recording that really spurred my interest i...

Sound Stage and Imaging
I love speakers who 'paint a big picture' (I am literally closing my eyes and trying to SEE a picture). Therefore I THINK I like to see IMAGING and BIG SOUND STAGE. And also like DYNAMICS. Being frugal (just not willing to spent audiophile level...
Whats playing on your system today?
Easily my vote for the best jazz release of 2023, which has been a pretty strong year for those of us in search of new jazz. Ingrid Laubrock - The Last Quiet Place (2023) First of all, this woman has some pretty serious chops on sax. Second, her...
