cdp digital volume control or preamp?
The BC 21.1 is an active pre-amp. It uses two 6922 tubes.
cdp digital volume control or preamp?
Hi Lousyreeds1, No, I didn't. I thought, if the the prices for good ones were high enough to put me close to the price range of a good line stage, so why not just get a line stage? Even though I only have one source, I can now add another, if I wa...
cdp digital volume control or preamp?
Hello, As a follow-up, I thought I'd let everyone know that my Blue Circle BC 21.1 pre-amp is in. The sound is way better than the digital volume control on the Music Hall Maverick, and it's not broken in yet.Cheers.
Is the SACD Format Flawed?
SACD is better than redbook. Period. If you have ears, you know this. I'll admit that redbook play can possibly equal SACD if you have gobs of money to spend, but on a reasonable budget, come on! SACD sounds like music and makes me want to not do ...
Any problems with Springsteens DualDisc?
Plays fine on my Sony SCD XA-9000ES. I was a little nervous about putting it in there, I'll admit. I haven't tried the DVD side, yet.Cheers.
Have U ever bought an LP because of the cover art?
Almost always. Good cover art, in my opinion, suggests that care was taken in all aspects of production. Not always true, but a good barometer. There are, of course, exceptions. I remember picking up "Stealing Fire" by Bruce Cockburn and putting i...
Latest NiN SACD release:Downward Spiral
I don't have the original redbook to compare. It's a fair SACD mix, but suffers from such a forward recording style that is probably meant for cars or boom boxes....Cheers.
Unbalanced to balanced adaptor
Cardas makes them. I use them for the same purpose. Find them in the Music Direct catalog. $50 for a pair. I don't find that they make a difference positively or negatively.Cheers.
Your Favorite, Most Outstanding Guitar Solo
I don't really like guitar solos, but I love a great guitar line woven into the fabric of a great song. Listen to the guitar line on "I've Had Enough" from Quadrophenia just before Pete sings "my jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked..." or the a...
Experience with power conditioners
I agree with Fathertime (how can you not agree with someone called Fathertime?). I recently had to address the shortage of outlets for my components. I thought about various products, from Shunyata to PS Audio and Monster. I ended up buying the Mo...
Simple guitar songs for beginning musician
Early Who. 1964 through "Tommy". "I Can't Explain" and "The Kids are Alright" are good easy ones. "I Can't Explain" has a rough patch in the middle, and I believe good tabs even mark the spots where you must literally bend the neck of the guitar b...
What music would you like at your funeral?
Dylan, and nothing but Dylan. Most of my family and friends hate the music of Bob Dylan. There's no accounting for taste. I will rest happily knowing that, even from the grave, I can still annoy the hell out of people. A copy of Quadrophenia goes...
DAC question -- Importance of good vibes
I bought my Birdland from Perotta, who is a gentleman. Based loosely on another thread from several months ago, I am surmising that there might have been a falling out between Birdland and Perotta, which may explain why he didn't mention the Odeon...
DAC question -- Importance of good vibes
I still swear by my Birdland Odeon-Ag. Dollar for dollar still my best purchase in audio in terms of bang for buck. $1850 new, probably in your price range used, but I hardly ever see them for sale used, and I know why.Cheers.
I am not an opera fan...but...
I'd recommend La Traviata by Verdi as a good starter.
