This Schitt is totally refreshing in the world of high end audio!
To each his own. I am a Christian and love my Schiit Freya. It is a fantastic product. The customer service is first-rate too, IMO.Tom
I'd like to upgrade my speaker wire
I like the Anti-Cables I'm using with Vandersteen 2Cs, but they are only 5' runs each, bi-wired. Not sure about spending $ for 40'...Glad to hear you got Jim Smith's book, it is excellent.Tom
New CDP or standalone DAC...?
@ptssĀ - thought about it, never pulled the trigger...I don't have much interest in SACD or HDCD any more, 99% of my listening is redbook CDs.To all- thanks for the thoughtful suggestions, 'Goners are such a good source of information! Will post aga...
Have you ever reversed your opinion on a piece of gear?
Absolutely. After being an audiophile since the 70s, I was about to sell my then-current system a couple of years ago because it sounded so "bad". By chance, I ordered Jim Smith's book Get Better Sound, followed all his setup advice, and installed...
New CDP or standalone DAC...?
Hello mesch, nice to hear from you! Yes, I am loving the Vincent/Schiit combo. I'm staunchly (stubbornly?) redbook. Our computers are in other rooms, none in the listening room. Since I'm so happy with the Freya, I'm leaning towards getting one of...
New CDP or standalone DAC...?
Opening this thread again. Thank you previous posters for the tremendous amount of information. My system now consists of Oppo 103 UDP, Vincent SP-331 amp, Schiit Freya preamp, Vandersteen 2Cs bi-wired, Anti-Cables. Room is acoustically treated all...
Is Pre-Amp needed
So...maybe using a preamp is less accurate, but it sure sounds better to me.
Is Pre-Amp needed
Re the accuracy debate: interesting comment in Stereophile from one of the writers. He quoted JGH as having said something along the lines of...Accuracy is something all audiophiles say they want, but when they get it they don't like it.
What is an Audiophile? Here's the list for newbies.
@bstatmeister- Ain't that the truth!!!
Considering Vandersteen 3a Signatures
@audionoobie- my room was an echo-horror chamber. I treated all four walls, the ceiling, and the floor to get the desired results.
Is Pre-Amp needed
It's not "needed" if you like what you are hearing. I was doing the same thing but was not happy with the sound. Adding a pre-amp in my system changed the sound that to my ears was an improvement.
Considering Vandersteen 3a Signatures
Do room treatments. I'm using Primacoustic panels from Sweetwater Sound in a moderately small room with Vandy 2Cs and the difference between untreated and treated was jaw-dropping. Bigger improvement than ANY gear change will do. Remember, the roo...
Near-field speaker placement
Buy Jim Smith's book Get Better Sound.Read it.Read it again.Make notes.Start moving speakers and listening seat.Repeat as needed.Be patient.Do more moving.Enjoy your now much-better-sounding system that only cost you the price of the book and your...
