California Audio Labs Icon
Over many decades I have owned lots of CD players (including a CA Labs) so many improvements since those days and a tremendous reduction in price makes repair a waste of $$$. Case in point, I recently bought a Shanling ET3 transport (MSRP $729) an...
Dedicated CD Transport vs DAC
Both are critical. For ~ 3 years I had a Audiolab 6000CDT (MSRP $599) which I THOUGHT I WAS HAPPY WITH- except for missing bass, but I only paid $300 used. It was connected to my Audio Alchemy DDP-1+ PS 5. Eventually I thought about either upgradi...
SACD Players
Check out Shanling. I bought their ET3 a couple months ago and am extremely happy, but it does not play SACDs. They do have a model that does under $1300
What Power Amplifier Should I Buy?
Your amp MIGHT not be the cause of lack of umph. My recent experience with my ~3 year old Emerald Physics 3.4s (12" coaxial driver) in a large room I long felt that I needed subwoofer reinforcement UNTIL... This is a mind blower and YMMV (though ...

Time For a CD Player Upgrade
About a month ago I replaced my Audiolab CDT 6000 with a Shanling ET3 (MSRP $729) it's unbelievable but adding a VeraFI Snubway ($295) was even more incredible/. the 6000 is for sale cheap
CD player upgrade
@mellowshifi About 3 weeks ago I replaced my Audiolab CDT6000 with a Shanling ET3. No looking back. It's way above its $729
Amplifier recommendation
@viridian    +1, but also the most overlooked is power conditioning. VeraFi Audios Snubway ($295) is amazing, especially considering that I already have 20 amp dedicated line + a Core Power 1800 PLC
For SACD fans only
Check out the Shanling SCD 1.3. I recently bought their ET3 and it is AMAZING
I am just very happy with my system.
Unless you have the newest (and very reasonably priced) bits of kit specifically to address the negative effects of power on musical or video playback. I have long understood this and have addressed it ~ 30years ago first with adding a 20 amp dedi...
