Why the hate for mcintosh amps? @roxy54, To each his own. I really do believe that for the most part we hear similarly, but often do listen differently, Enjoy!
Need advice/opinion in choosing Vandy 2ci or Thiel 1.5 There's still support available for Thiel Audio loudspeakers: Coherent Source Service – Specializing in repair and restoration of THIEL Loudspeakers
Why the hate for mcintosh amps? ^Success often does breed contempt.
Why the hate for mcintosh amps? @roxy54 , Let me start by saying that I don’t hate McIntosh. There’s a lot to say for McIntosh:The good: All of the high-end owes a debt of gratitude to McIntosh. In the early days of “HiFi”, when that meant something, they toured and demonstrate...
Thiel Owners @tomthiel, I’m glad your trip was fruitful. Hopefully we’ve found a resource to help further the Thiel legacy. I’m truly excited by the eq projects. The more I think about your earlier posts about making the Thiel’s cross-overs external; the mo...
Why the hate for mcintosh amps? @roxy54, Yes. I answered the OP’s question. And while I don’t care for the Mc sound, I don’t want to just keep dumping on them. I think I’ve said enough.
Why the hate for mcintosh amps? @roxy54 , Your points have merit. But, the only practical advantages were over 50 years ago when in the early days of ss amplification transistors weren’t very durable. Those days are long gone. Autoformers in ss amps for the last 50 years only se...
Why the hate for mcintosh amps? @roxy54 , 50 years is about the amount of time that transistors have been around as perhaps the most rugged of output devices. Other than one particular, rather unique First Watt ss amp that uses autoformers at the input rather than the output al ...
Need advice/opinion in choosing Vandy 2ci or Thiel 1.5 The Vandy 2’s are more room sensitive, the Thiel 1.5’s more amplifier sensitive. These Vandy’s have deeper, but less articulate bass response. Other than that it’s just a matter of personal preference.
Why the hate for mcintosh amps? So many of my thoughts have already been posted, but as one not particularly interested in tube gear, let me add that IMHO using autoformers in modern ss amps is just stupid.
Thiel Owners @ctsooner , I couldn’t agree more, but it’s curious how many that don’t appreciate the time coherence assume that there wouldn’t be cross appreciation of the brands by the owners of each. I regularly read of people that have or do own both. FWIW, ...
How important is the pre-amp? From integral to superfluous to hindrance. It’s system dependent.
Threshold T-200. Help me choose a preamplifier @vestusto, the above mentioned Levinson pres have micro-processor controls for user controls such as volume, balance, source selection, communication with other Levinson gear, etc. It is not Class D in the audio domain. As this is not done in a s...
Threshold T-200. Help me choose a preamplifier Those Levinson pieces should work just fine. In their day they were considered amongst the best. Personally I’d be wary of old micro-processor controlled units, and though it might not be a real concern for you in Russia, the new mark Levinson own...
Threshold T-200. Help me choose a preamplifier @vetusto, I would not agree that Japanese audio tech is more reliable than U.S.. Components like capacitors typically last at least as long as about 25 years, give or take, and might last many more… or not. One would want to replace them before th... |
