I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring
@grannyring  Good research, and comments.  Well done. @ghdprentice Thank you,
I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring
I did a "deep dive" into this subject under a post entitled: "Thinking Inside the Box." As a enthusiastic "modder" of decent hifi gear, our objective is not to "paint a mustache on the Mono Lisa", but rather address compromises that the manufactu...
Do you listen to your music with your eyes open or closed or a combination of both?
I hang out with a questionable bunch of characters.  Eyes always open.
Bose 901 Review Well Done.
I am curious if anyone remembers the 901 demos back in "the day."  One very impressive demo to prove the durability of 901s was to take pure AC right from the wall outlet to the inputs of the 901s.  Flip the switch and "BRRRRRRR" for a half a seco...
Who's winning?
The term "intelligent ignorance" comes to mind.  Sometimes "not knowing" is "smarter" than "knowing." We got a gift of a bottle of wine that was 5x what our typical wine costs.  Big mistake.  No, we're not spending 5x for wine these days.  We only...
Bose 901 Review Well Done.
A very entertaining, well-written article. Just another reminder why I chose a career path as a hifi peddler and speaker nerd, rather than a wordsmith. I am working on an article (to be released shortly?) in defense of 901s from the unique perspe...
Perhaps the most annoying myth in audio of 2025? Talking about Loudness!
I think the goal reproducing music at home is to recreate an "experience." We also need to define the elements that comprise what an "experience" actually is. Recreating "all" of the music is certainly the main objective. But there is more. Our mu...
I feel for you
My dad started his machine shop in our basement. I was his first "employee" at age 9. Physically impacting physical objects was second nature to me. Relocating the Mac9 racing engine from our racing go-cart as a kid onto a minibike then, unexpecte...
What do the statistics say about the age of Audiophiles and the replacement rate?
What we’re experiencing is a perfect storm as it relates to the demise of "specialty audio." Back in the 70s, new sales guys would show up to work on Day One with a love for music and the equipment that reproduced it. They’d already have a workin...
«40% Of Audiophiles Are Dying And No One Is Doing Anything About It!»
I recently read that you can add 9 years to your life by running 40-50 minutes, 5 times a week.  Perhaps we should be skipping the next DAC upgrade and investing in a good pair of running shoes to sustain the useful life of quality audio gear? And...
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@thecarpathian  Welll played.
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
Quicksilver Messenger Service opened for Three Dog Night in Kansas City. Would have been around 1974?  A very interesting grouping/coupling.
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
I can't confirm this, but it's rumored that Keith Richards opened for Mozart on more than one occasion.
Dusting gear and turntable
@dwette  "My wife vacuums on a regular basis (2-3 times/week), and even checks that I have the stylus guards fitted to both tonearms before she goes into the listening room with it vacuum." Does she have a sister?
Are upgraded power cables for subwoofers worth it?
Yes. It's been argued that there are better "bang for the buck" power cables than Audioquest, but can't think of a single occassion where their $100(+/-) cables have not provided a sound quality inprovement to anything I've connected them to.
