I often notice that people who have open reel decks and/or tube equipment are nicest
Yes, I have 2 R2R decks. My wife insisted on it, She thought they might help file a couple of burrs off my course personality. It’s a work in progress.
"...and I don't take any advertiser money..."
I don’t have an issue with a publication requiring a manufacturer advertise with them before agreeing to review a product. The "audio community" is essential for the survival of the industry and the manufacturer would be making a good faith commit...
A little puzzled by my newly acquired Yamaha A-S801
If you're happy with the sonics of the amp overall, but it is a little "light" on the bass, you might consider (if you haven't already) paying very close attention to power delivery. You can improve low bass energy and control by upgrading everyth...
Movie/film suggestions.
Gattica: hidden gem October Sky: uplifting My Cousin Vinny: still pretty darned funny. August Rush. Near the begining is a scene where the "soul mates" connect as his live concert synchs up remotely with her classical recital. Nicely done. Sta...
Has this ever happened to you?
Yes.  It stays there until you experience the next "whack you upside the head" moment, or hearing loss.  Whichever comes first.
Dumb question......why do you need a preamp?
The term "preamp" implies, like may other things, something that is needed prior to the main event.  In this particular case "amplification." Preamble: something you do before you amble Prenuptial: something that takes place before you nupt Pre...
MoFi Sourcepoint 888 Speakers
@roxy54  Agree on the CF-4 vs K'Horns.  The CF-4s were a "big boy" D'Oppolito design that presented a very coherent point source when set up properly.
MoFi Sourcepoint 888 Speakers
@roxy54  Yes, there are mechanical limits to what the CF-4s can do with the music.  Impressive in their factory form.  When you "open them up, and let them play" (via upgrades) they take on a different personality altogether.
What does 90% of the Absolute Best Sound Cost?
I'd like to add that our subjective appreciation of the music is linear.  The cost is exponential.   Let's say, for example, the best speaker "bang for the buck" is $300/pr. A clear audible upgrade may cost twice that.  Then, twice that.  Then tw...
Does a good power conditioner reduce need for power supply upgrade?

MoFi Sourcepoint 888 Speakers
@roxy54  Nicely done.  A good example of what you'd hope to read when you open a post on an audio forum.  Happy to hear you've found the right speakers for you On a side note, I've always thought the Klipsch CF-4s were one of the most "under app...
How can they not effect the sound
Using a vacuum is a very good idea.  If all else fails, try grabbing some Gorilla tape and ease the sticky side into the indention.  Then a gentle (or not so gentle) tug.
Things we cannot be bothered by anymore
Renting/leasing a Nissan forklift to raise my amp while I dust under it. Speaker grilles Pop up ads on vinyl. They really mess with the stylus in a bad way. Kiosks and/or self-service of any kind.  It's really difficult to hold the mirror AND t...
soft dome versus hard dome tweeters
Curious fingers are incompatible with hard dome tweeters.
Woodstock 1969, or 1967?
@bdp24 I always enjoy your deep dives into music and culture. And thanks for sharing the (very informative) video. A comedian recently said that the purpose of entertainment is to create a common culture. This assumes, of course, that you accep...
