Do military/industrial tubes sound better than regular ones ?
“That means less bang for the buck not more if military” +1 there was scandal in 80s, on x100 times overpriced simple 1N4148 diode for MIL use, without much of “improvement”..

"why not buy a new Technics or comparable unit” ..because of x2/x3/x4 price vs well performing/built vintage? Also, some fellow audiophiles want to spend some time building systems, aka hobby.

"But you do not have any control what a manufacturer uses on his equipment.” +1 Why should we? I don’t have power connection issues using my Esoteric, Luxman, and Accuphase devices. If there will be such problems, I will buy original parts to re...

“..the IEC power connectors are a poor designed electrical power connector.” - agree for some manufacturers / OEMs.. I’ve seen very good quality manufactured IEC interconnects.
Directional wires/cables
@richardbrand +1  to add: DC is connected btw source and load with two wires, one is for forward the other one for return current, in opposite to forward direction. This makes all cable directionality proposals DOA.

@laaudionut from your list I would recommend to look at sl1000mk2. Without tonearm you may find one in good shape, with clear dustcover, fitting into your budget. There are plenty relatively cheap arms’ easily adoptable to it’s original plinth. Ad...
Balanced vs RCA preamps

An IEC with grip
I have no issues w/ IEC, using original PCs, in my Accuphase/Luxman setups. Using third party cables could lead to tolerance / bad / incompatible metal contact issues. To avoid it, either replace receptacle and plug by respectful brand, ideal one ...
Directional wires/cables
“..the label aligns with the flow of electrons” electrons in cable move only for DC connection! All audio signals’ are AC, thus electrons are only shaking both ways, and generate EM wave moving from source to load! Not absorbed EM wave in impedanc...
Vinyl Lovers-- Cartridges!!!! Do you have a daily driver?
my daily driver is AT-ML180 running @ 1gf.. no fatigue, low dist., very airy sound, excellent for classic/blues/jazz/rock and even techno!
Directional wires/cables
“..could have been pre broken in.  Break in is real.” no proof statement again.. yes, there is aging processes in any device s involved in sound amplification and transmission, pareto is in tubes/SS/Dig not wires. cables exposed to aging as well, ...
Balanced vs RCA preamps
@68pete "Just because you have balanced input and out puts does not mean the unit is full balanced!” +1 XLR isn’t only balancing solution possible! I designed “balanced interconnect” by adding out and in fully isolating ground transformers, typ 5...
Balanced vs RCA preamps
Balanced interface is superior to single ended, not matched impedance RCA (or DIN) one, because: 1) truly balanced (not pseudo) interface has common mode noise rejection, which eliminates / reduces noise between two connected devices chassis / gn...
Best Used Tube Based Preamp $2k Or Under?
there will no be SQ impact, just pick the right device! there are many transformers between your outlet and high-kV power station already installed! why do you need step-up to get 100V ac, typo? I use multiple low loss / leakage Nissyo TP-811 for ...
