Spu bottom parallel to record?
I run my two SPUs with the arm tube parallel to the record surface, then adjust by ear. It's probably the same position as with the SPU bottom parallel, but I haven't checked.
In Memoriam: Bobby Palkovich of Merlin Music
A good man who made good speakers. Sad loss indeed.
record weight .... correct weight?
I second Elinor's recommendation the Oyaide weight. I've settled on the lighter one on my Lenco after trying out quite a few well-regarded clamps and weights. It is adjustable in increments of 200g; each change brings an audible difference. Made o...
VAC Signature 2a Preamp Question
I had this problem with my Phi Beta preamp, which is much like the 2a Sig. As others have said, you simply have to move the power supply as far away as possible, at least 3 feet.
Does anyone run 2 or more turntables...
For the same reason I have three systems: because it's fun.
The Band: S/T and/or Music from the Big Pink
My Big Pink, bought in 1972, sounds excellent.
What's best bookshelf speaker for an 8x10 room?
I can testify that the Merlin TSM will do well near the front wall. In a second system, I have a pair placed 10 inches into a huge room (16x25), resting on their sides in a large, open-sided wall unit, driven by a Manley Stingray II with a Marantz...
Miyajima MADAKE experience
I like my Kansui well enough but really, this "grown on one mountain in Kyoto" stuff sounds too parodic for me to take it seriously. Unless, of course, cave monks have warmed the tiny bamboo slivers under their keisters while achieving absolute co...
Fozgometer
I've had a Foz for maybe four years now. During that time I've installed five cartridges on four tonearms on three turntables. All sounded better after setting azimuth with it--that is, better than eyeballing perpendicularity with a Millennium blo...
Fozgometer
If it can't be calibrated to the test tones, it is out of whack. Nothing subjective about that.
Azimuth question
I have noticed that some arms need to have the ground wire connected to get an accurate reading, others don't. Perhaps the guy with the 15 degree error had his ground disconnected.
Brinkmann Bardo
I'm quite pleased with the Oasis. To put my comments into context, I'll include my recent turntable history. I owned a Michell Orbe SE (AC motor) for many years; liked it, but finally could not tolerate its lack of speed control. I replaced it wit...
Triplanar vii - upgrade tonearm and ic wiring
Some time ago I sent my VIIuii in to have the cueing mechanism repaired. While it was there, Tri radiused my headshell, gratis, rounding the right angles. I thought the change improved the sound, making the highs a bit more resolving.
Miyajima Kansui vs Dynavector XV-1S
I agree with David that the HFs on the Kansui are its weakness. I find them a touched laid back and closed-in, even through the SUT, but not exactly unnatural or disconnected. With resistor loading that was more true, IME.
Miyajima Kansui vs Dynavector XV-1S
Don't know the Dyna but own both the Kansui and Shelter 901 (bought in 2001, retipped by Soundsmith around 6 years ago). The Kansui, to me, is a substantial upgrade over the Shelter, with much more body, weight, and an organic quality that is hard...
