Need some help picking my first MC Cartridge I use a Goldring Eroica LX in a third system and have found it to be quite nice. It is within your price range.
The greatest Pop song yet written and recorded. I vote for Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', and would nominate Jeff Buckley's version as the best with honorable mention to John Cale's version.
Thank You Fumihiko Sugano and Koetsu I have an original Sugano senior (c 1980s) Koetsu Urushi in my main system and haven't heard anything that would make me want to change that!
Recommend me a DAC under 3k I'd add Hegel to your list - anything from the HD 12 through H 120 do a great job.
Am I wasting money on the theory of Bi-amping? I biamp in one of my systems. I use a pair of mono amps to handle the bass and a different pair of mono amps to handle the mids and highs. The mid/high have the bass rolled off using high quality caps at the amp inputs and there is an adjustable ...
Upgrade my older Linn Sondek or move on? I had an LP12 for awhile - decent table but I moved on (now use a VPI TNT V and a Sota Cosmos in my systems). I prefer either of them to the Linn.

Why Can't Modern Tube Manufacturers Make a Proper Tube? Excellent tube ar being made in China - I recently picked up a set of KT88s and auditioned them against a set of Gold Lions a couple of years old,and some NOS unused Gold Lions. The new Chinese tubes sounded better.... Of course a lot of crap ge...
How Much Do Aesthetics Factor Into Your Decisions? Aesthetics are not high on my list - to the point where unless they are disgustingly ugly (and I have seen some that are) I only look for good sound. I did have a minor battle with my wife when I acquired big Wilsons - first when three large crat...
Rant: PSA to builders, housewives, and general complaint I live in an older house that thankfully has walls and doors - large open spaces would drive me crazy trying to 'tune' a system. I have a 65" wall mounted TV above the fireplace and like it - no issue at all. I suppose that it could be a problem...
Is low cost DAC worth it? You can get a lot of bang for the buck with not very expensive DACs. I use a Hegel HD12 DAC in my third system that is amazingly good. IIRC it was something like $1400.
How serious are you? "Serious" seems to equate for some with how often you change gear. I've been doing this for the last 40 years and once you reach a certain point and your main system is making you happy, you seldom want to continue the obsessive upgrade thing. T...
If the DAC is the same, how different do CD transports sound? My CD 'player' is a network drive where I keep my digital music. Will we have to start doing comparison A/B tests with different brands of hard drives? Has anyone actually done that?
Ruminations On CD Players I still own an Arcam Delta 70 they were very good players. Not using it now (I only have one of my 3 systems with a CD player, an Emotiva, but rarely use it since I ripped my entire CD library (thousands of them!) and boxed them up) Consider stre...
"Can You Lift Yours?" I use twin mono amps in one system that weigh in at over 100 lbs. and a single stereo amp in another system that is just under 150 lbs. but all that sounds light compared to some of you! |
