upgrade Vandersteen speakers "((*IME, Richard Vandersteen has always seemed to be a straight shooter))Still is...(((but saying; things I currently sell are better than things I no longer sell, and things I currently sell for more are better than what I currently sell for less...
Why do audiophiles shun feedback in amplifiers? "I have found amps with less or no feedback sound loose and diffuse with less dynamics... I know you should design am amp with excellent open loop gain before applying feedback. I can see the use of no negative feedback for low level amplification...
upgrade Vandersteen speakers Lostbears quote,"I would see if you could borrow a newer amp from your ARC dealer. ARC solid state amps have come a long way since the early 90's and the D240 mkII. I think that would make the most significant change."I don't know if I would go th...
upgrade Vandersteen speakers I say get a newer pair of Vandersteen's. I'll admit I'm biased because they are my favorite speaker. But I really don't feel that you can do better. As far as Rrog's comment about being bright, I disagree. Vandersteen's are very transparent. More ...
I'd probably lose this bet.... bababondoman,"I would BET $$ that there is NO person that could guess which wire he was listening to if the run was, say 20 to each speaker. I would be referring to the VERY BEST cable one could find and compare it with the same gauge of Monster c...
Vandersteen 2ce questions Its an impedance issue. Even though you have 2 sets of speaker cables going to the same speaker, they still have to be connected properly to work. The circuit that is completed when both sets of cables are used in a biwire config. are not the same...
Small speaker suggestions "I listen to a lot of rock as well as jazz. I want something that shows the details in the jazz recordings but doesn't reveal the flaws in the rock recordings."Thats probably not going to happen. You'll save a lot of time and money if you just buy...
Anyone know what kind of XLO speaker cable this is I didn't think to mention this in my post but those cables are more than 12 years old. They came out in the early 90's (91 or 92 I think). Also, they are very difficult to work with. Unless you can get them really cheap, I wouldn't bother with them.
Levinson 23.5 - I think I need a new toy. If you really like the sound of tubes, I think you should pick a different amp. The ML is a nice, refined amp, but you would never mistake it for tubes. In your situation, I would check out something from Ayre, BAT or Pass. You'll probably be much...
Class D with Tyler Acoustics What makes you want to go with class d? I'm not saying that you shouldn't get one, but why not consider all types and then pick the one that sounds best?
ARC SP16 vs SP8 What's the rest of your system? Just about any piece in an audio system can mess up imaging. I've never cared for the SP-16, myself, but I wouldn't necessarily say that its the cause of your problem. As far as your analog setup goes, I don't think...
Power cord recommendation for DAC I would recommend the JPS Labs Digital AC-X. Its a little more than what you want to spend but I feel its worth it.
Synergistic Research Comes Down to Earth Sabai,Overall, I tend to agree with your comments about SR cables. I tried several different pairs on loan from The Cable Company. For the most part, they were OK but overpriced. Just to be clear, though, their product line is very large and I hav...
Thirty dollar upgrade worth thousands Gammajo,Some audiophile you are. "Even though I though my hearing was fine, my wife could easily see that I had wax buildup. Clearing this out might just save you 20K in equipment chasing for better sound."If you upgrade your hearing, you then hav...
Synergistic Research Comes Down to Earth Excellent post. It makes you realize just how diverse a system can be and still sound great. For me, the real issue is not weather SR has "Come down to earth" but are their products worth the money; at all price levels. I understand, though, that m... |
