Alternative to Ayre k-5XeMP preamp.

congrats, looks like a beauty.

I noticed the remote control is optional as well as an optional phono stage which I believe uses one of the 3 xlr inputs.

Got K1xe. Thanks for replies. 

Balanced inputs are a must. I am gravitating towards K1 xe. Also, unit I was considering does not have phono pre so I would have to keep my Ayre P5. All cabling is balanced and don't want to reinvent to different route. I am just short one additional input or else I would keep k-5xeMP. Thanks for all the suggestions.

if not, an Integrated with pre-out gives lots of options,

this Audiolab has DAC and MM Phono that might sound great, you never know).

streamer, internal DAC (might sound better than your existing, you never know), MM/MC phono .....

You’re likely better off getting a separate phono pre anyway unless the one in the K1 is an anomaly.

Seller (older guy) claims it has but has not used phono (not a turntable guy). Shared manual proving phono specs but that could be generic as phono is optional. Anyways, I would have to check with Ayre. Hope they help. Thanks.

Thanks. I shall consider K-1xe. Hopefully its phono is as good as P5xe that I am currently using. Just the age on these units give me slight pause... 

+1 @jc4659 Here’s a nice K-1xe — might be a bit over your price target, but some things are just worth paying for, and you’d be getting your needed inputs and a big sonic upgrade. I think you know what to do here.

I used to own the K-5xeMP and it was a very good preamp.  I moved up to the former Ayre flagship K-1xe which has 3 balanced inputs. It is a significant step up.  Same Ayre quality, same Ayre reliability.  You can probably find a used one for ~$3K or less.
