Audiophile Equipment Repair?

I'm in New Jersey and we can repair fix upgrade ay component.  We can offer upgrades to take that DAC to an entire new level.

here in Williamsburg, just down the road from you. Our local guy is an arrogant bastard, but endearingly so. He'll first tell you that you can't afford him, also tell you it will be several months - while his wife is giving you a nod behind his back that he's exaggerating. Place is called Action Electronics. 

You have Audio Exchange in Richmond, they do repairs, had them refurbish a Carver Receiver back in the day. Bought my Bluesound Vault there while I was shopping for amplifiers 2 years ago. They frown on Chi Fi equipment due to their military background - as far as I can gather, but otherwise they are pleasant, not as much character as our guy in Williamsburg...

Thanks for the info. I talked to the fellow you mentioned about three years ago and was going to contact him about this, but couldn’t remember his name or contact info. Yes, he’s a funny guy. When I asked him about doing a relatively simple update on my $10k CD transport he snarled a bit saying he doesn’t work on CD stuff. He eventually said he might consider it--if I could afford him. I eventually went with someone else who was considerably more open to doing the update.

I did contact Audio Exchange about the repair. He declined, telling me to send it back to the manufacturer. I’m guessing what you said about his anti-China sentiment influenced his decision. Ironic considering almost everything electronic comes from there, with the notable exception of high-end, boutique audiophile gear.

Anyway, I think I’m set having found someone local whom I know and trust.

I really believe that an audiophile should be able to repair their own electronics.

The same way that if you own a motorcycle you can't help being / becoming at least a little bit of a mechanic.
