Been there, know what you mean. First time listening to a really good turntable, it happened to be a Linn LP12 but could have been just about anything, I was floored! Absolutely gobsmacked! Especially since it wasn't even a good record, just one they pulled out of a bin of used records.
Then while I am gushing about how great this is the salesman tried I guess to distract me, or impress me even more, I don't know. But he put on Janis Ian Breaking Silence, an absolutely fabulous CD guaranteed to make any system sound better all by itself. He puts it into their then best Mark Levinson CD transport, DAC, mono-blocks, Wilson Watt-Puppy statement system. Which just happened to be in the same room.
Holy crap! That record bin reject on the Linn sounds better than my audiophile dream recording on CD! I got to get me one a them turntables!
It really is a shocker. Not the easiest thing to do however. Well worth the effort.
