It looks like most smart TVs now have BT transmit built in, so you can turn speakers on/off.  Yours sounds older than 7 years so it will be much harder to do.

Can you hook up the bar to the headphone audio? Then you could y-cord to a BT transmitter or wired headphones (if the latency is unacceptable.). Then turn down (mute) the bar during headphone use.  
Stupid remote or stupid user
What remote? I am having multiple intermittent problems with IR remotes lately. I’m blaming the recent massive solar flares. I've had + results with Sony VL600 learning remotes for decades.

Your hearing might be unbalanced. Mine is. Since "listening" is the objective, adjust it by ear.

@rvpiano All true. Except.I’m currently listening to a huge Willie Dowling playlist. This can only be accomplished by playing local files. Or buying all of his Bandcamp tracks. Only a couple albums are on Qobuz.
