Japan purchases

They talk about buying a converter. And name brands that we know from Japan, preowned. What do you see as possible issues? What are the risks of a converter and are they expensive?
Has anyone really had any experience doing this… good or bad?

I going up Japan in two week to shop for horn system. I have girl up there spend three day and show me good time we shop together. She good culture tell me no buy shop owner raw fish to show appreciate.

bought a luxman cd player from japan, everything worked out well, good deal, timely shipping, etc.  the 120 V converter was about $125 and works well but is large, heavy has a wimpy power cord for a 500 watt device.

one very big issue is getting the player serviced.  luxman north america will not touch a 100 volt product- so service must go all the way back to japan.

i would do it again because the player sounds excellent.

Had a look again at how Yahoo Japan auctions work.

You have to preload money onto your account, more than your bid amount (including Paypal fee). Money can be refunded, although you do not get the Paypal fee returned.

With the two items I won (maybe three?), postage was very reliable.

Yahoo Japan Auctions sucks ass... they absolutely refused to ship me some WE horns... claiming the were speakers that had magnets (they were not) on them so the could not air ship them... and the were too expensive $3500 with their estimated shipping... the deal was they had a pair of WE-555 drivers on them... those bastards realized the value of those and bought it themselves, they were separated and relisted at 4 times the value a week later, they suck ass period.
