I have had 2 LL2 preamps, bought a used LL2 Deluxe while I was settling on preamps and going through a total of 12 different brand preamps that I had in my view and deciding it was the one, sold all preamps in house and bought a new LL2.1 direct from a dealer supplied by Lamm because we had no dealer in Houston. The pre is amazing and built my system around it, the only issue with microphonics was on the new unit as it was delivered and Lamm sent me a new tube and I never had another problem, WTS your volume settings seem to be identical to mine with my unit but it always allowed me to dial the volume in and not feel like I was missing the sweet spot. I have always kept the stock tubes supplied by Lamm except the Rectifier tube which I went with a Brimer in that position. I spend most my time listening around 72 to 76 DB. I hope this helps. Enjoy the music, and that special pre
Lamm LL2.1 Deluxe Questions
I recently added a Lamm LL2.1 Deluxe preamp to my system. My speakers are Charney Maestros with Voxative 2.6 drivers. My amp is an AirTight 300B (or Elekit 300B right now since my AirTight flamed out). Sources are Audio Note DAC and Thoress phono preamp.
Sound is amazing, best I have had so far in any of my three systems. Life-like tonality and detail. But, I do have a couple of issues/questions for any other Lamm owners:
1. Even using the -15 dB switch (changing gain from 18 dB to 3 dB), at normal listening levels the volume controls will be at one quarter of maximum. Setting the controls at half way would blow the window out. Even with my speakers being around 94 dB sensitivity, does this seem unusual?
2. The preamp seems extremely sensitive to microphonics. I have cycled through a number of new and very good NOS tubes and probably half create some level of microphonics, especially in one channel. Is this just an artifact of Lamm preamps?
Thanks for any responses and experiences.
