Mazzy's Election Special playlist.

Norman Maslov is one of the most prolific Vinyl Community content creators on YouTube, with wide-ranging tastes and a massive music library (LP and CD). Here's his playlist for this year's election:

Yeah @roxy54, though it shouldn’t be the case it very well could be. It’s just Mazzy’s recommendation of politically-themed albums, no reason to get po’d. My goodness, why on Earth are people in this country (for those of us in the USA) so quick to get argumentative, feeling they have to "take sides"?

In the old days the rule for family gatherings was "No politics, no religion." But if a group of artists made albums in which political issues are the subject, why can’t they be mentioned without the fact that politics is involved therefore making them forbidden from even being cited as examples of same? Is even mentioning Neil Young's song "Ohio" forbidden? Would a list of albums in which religion is the subject also be forbidden? Any other subjects that are off limits?

How can Dylan's album The Times They Are A-Changin' be discussed if the political content can't be mentioned? It can't. How silly, how juvenile. No wonder much of the world views us as they do.

I believe Audiogon’s policy is no political mention of any kind.  I have had quite a few posts banned in the past because of that.

@bdp24 -- Sorry, but it’s far from just a non-political RECOMMENDATION list...read every reply in the "Comments Section". There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but Maslov comes across as extremely Far Left and lets his hatred of Donald Trump and the GOP be known. Again, that is Maslov’s God-given and Constitutionally protected right in the United States of America, and I have no problem with him voicing his opinion.

But, Audiogon has made it clear with their actions in the past that politically themed posts are not allowed. So if posts supporting Trump are going to be deleted, then posts supporting Harris should also be deleted -- what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Or are we playing by "Washington Guidelines"...Rules For Thee, But Not For Me.

@allenf1963: Your argument would be reasonable were it not for the fact that: 1- The post is not politically themed. It is a post that provides a link to a video in which the video maker discusses albums that contain politically-themed lyrics. For those who didn’t finish high school, there is a difference between the two. And 2- Mazzy went out of his way to never, not once, mention the name of a single political candidate. The albums he includes are John Lennon’s Sometime In New York City, from 1972. Can that album never be mentioned on Audiogon, as it contains political content? Okay mommy.

Seeing as how this thread may soon be removed, I may as well go ahead and bring up the name of Woody Guthrie, writer of an American anthem in his song "This Land Is Your Land". Off limits? A hero and role model for Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and numerous others, Woody wrote a song way back in the 1930’s when he lived in an apartment building owned by the father of one of the two current Presidential candidates, though he never recorded it. It bore the title "Old Man *****", and was inspired by the apartment building owner’s refusal to rent to black people. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree. wink

As Lennon said: "Gimme Some Truth." He also said "Woman Is The N*gg*r Of The World", a proclamation currently particularly relevant. By the way, I concur with Mazzy’s assessment of the musical accompaniment Lennon received on that album by the horrid band Elephant’s Memory. John, baby, WTF?!

You reap what you sow.   I guess we will find out what we have sown of late very soon.

@bdp24  -- Sorry my comment triggered you.  Insults weren't necessary.  I didn't attack you or attack the video, I merely pointed out that the comments section of the YouTube video is extremely political and toxic -- something I am extremely tired of seeing occur with EVERY discussion nowadays -- and it begins with the first comment and reply "Pinned" by Maslov.  Or did you not even look at the comments?  The comment says (I summarize): "We watch the election from another country and wonder whether stupidity will prevail?  Why do people support an idiot like Trump? God help the Western world if he's elected."  To which Maslov replies:  "brainwashed.  A cult. They line (I believe he meant like -- and no, he didn't capitalize the b in brainwashed) that he shakes things up, but they are voting against their own best interests."

That was the FIRST comment and reply seen because Masov pinned it.  Pinning it means he WANTS that to be the first thing seen and it sets the tone.  This example and other comments made makes it appear to me -- in just my humble opinion -- that the intent of his video went beyond highlighting what is a fantastic assortment of music.  It was meant to be anti-Trump.  Which, AGAIN, is his right in this country.  But, that puts the video in the territory which Audigon has been vigilant about censoring -- a practice I have been very vocal against if you search my commenting history on this forum.  However, even if I don't like it, if Audiogon is going to censor one viewpoint, they have to censor the other.

It saddens and angers me when Audiogon deletes threads because members get in a pissing match with each other.  I believe as adults we have the ability to "scroll on" if you disagree with somebody's comment.  Had Maslov simply replied, "Thank you for watching!  I appreciate your support", to each comment whether it was  attacking Mr. Trump or Miss Harris, we wouldn't be having this discussion.  But, he didn't, he went out of his way to attack one of the candidates, which made it political.  End of story.

P.S.  I hope your thread doesn't get deleted, because the albums highlighted are tremendous!  I own most of them.
