Memorial Day

Want to take time to thank all active military and veterans, and especially the families who have lost love ones, and let you know our thoughts, and prayers, are with you. We cannot possibly thank you enough.

Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts, that you are the Mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the fields of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray our heavenly father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of freedom.
Yours very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln
Letter to Mrs. Bixby Nov 21 1864
My thanks to those who serve and have served our country with dignity and honor.
Find the cost of freedom buried in the ground. May we never forget the price that has been paid. And to let freedom slip through our fingers, would present the highest disrespect to those that should be held in the highest of honor. May God continue to bless us with those who are willing to pay the price of freedom. And may we always recognize when it is threatened.
Theo: You and I may have different definitions of freedom.
Nobody--not even the hallowed dead--can speak for all.
What does this have ANYTHING to do with audio? If threads about what people smoke while listening to music are removed so should threads like this.
Notec.
The reason you are able to enjoy the audio hobbie and your lifestyle is because of the soldiers that have lived and died for the freedom.
You have insulted the soldiers and the American way of life with such a shallow statement.
I would like to use this Memorial Day podium (since Audiogon has decided to provide it) to express, with humility and respectful gratitude, my deep appreciation to all those who have fought, sometimes at the cost of much physical and psychic persecution, for peace and against some of the more egregious of our overseas adventures.
zmanastronomy, "the American way of life" supposedly includes the right to disagree.
Before this gets out of hand, let's remember what this day started out as. It was originally Decoration Day, to honor the dead from the Civil War, from both sides.

Honor the Dead.

Remember the horrors.

Hope for peace.

No more war.

Happy Memorial Day to all.
Yes, Memorial Day is to honor those who have died or have been wounded in the service of our country and I believe they deserve at least this one day of remembrance. These are people who have truly sacrificed for this country.

I also believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion BUT we should also agree on a few things.
Though it will come across as feeble in comparison to what they have done, my deepest and most profound thank you to those who served and their kinfolk.
"We The People”

This country began with those three words; and that will always be something worth fighting for. I can find no words to express my gratitude to those who have sacrificed so much in defense of those three words.

As always, I and my family have the highest respect and the deepest gratitude for all who have served, and on this day remember their sacrifices, as well as the sacrifices made by their families, so that we can be free.
Notec,
In a way, you might have paid the greatest tribute to those who have served... by simply demonstrating exactly that which so many of our bravest have died for - the right to be, speak and write like an ass.

There’s a time and a place, and this wasn’t it.
My children who are members of the local Civil Air Patrol worked at the military cemetery at our local Arsenal today. God bless all who fell before.
Phaelon - freedom of speech its all part of the constipation (as you lovingly
quoted above: "We The Sheep") - suck it and see
Hey Notec,

Regardless of our beliefs, mores, and folkways, and the incredibly wide divergence in those, whether pro or anti military, pro or anti religious, what drives them and how it's mutated through the years, been commodified, commercialized, spun and used, try, oh try to keep it civil.

You'd be surprised at how many probably agree with some of your views but your approach to all of this is heavy handed and out of line.

Tolerance of your views demands tolerance of others. Try not to be so impulsive. Edit, re-edit and do what I do when it seems to be too strong a retort: delete it.

All the best,
Nonoise
"Try not to be so impulsive. Edit, re-edit and do what I do when it seems to be too strong a retort: delete it.”

Nonoise - I need to burn that in wood and hang it on my wall...Thanks.
Words cannot not adequately describe the sacrifice those who have served and their families have made. We live in the greatest nation on earth thanks to them.
