Remove spring from RB300

How "easy" is it to remove the spring from the RB 300 arm? Is it something a "Newbie" can do with a little mechanical apptitude?

Hurrah for google.

Some people do take it out, but I don't know how much better it gets when you do this, and I've never done it.
