Wadia, Krell or Sony SACD

Wife went out of town for a few days, house all to myself..spl's on the + side of normal!! The XA777 has a steady feed of multichannel, two channel sacd's...along with plenty of redbook cd's. Sure glad I'm not stuck with a redbook only player. Just put in an order for five more sacd's from Amazon music store, all were under $15.00 with free shipping. Also bought a couple of redbook cd's..same price as the sacd's. Nothing left sitting in my rack!! Everything gets played.

I had the XA777ES, but got a Wadia 861.

My 10 SACDs are left sitting on the rack, but I haven't cared one bit.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the others on their comments about the Sony scd777es. I recently bought one and now I'm searching for a good DAC for redbook play. This isn't all bad since I can use the Sony as a good transport for CD's for now and the SACD playback is good. With a few SACD's in particular, the Sony was the best I've ever heard, not that I'm the most experienced audiophile around. But you might have noticed their aren't too many SACD titles around yet. This format confusion is really kind of annoying.

Galen is Excellent and in San Antonio, I purchased my Gamut CD1R from him and I've done business with him for the past 5 years. If I didn't buy the Gamut I would have bought the Wadia. I have a large Red book Collection. I listened to the Sony 777ES and wasn't impressed on red book.

Depends on what your main sources are. If you have a decent CD collection then go for the Wadia. I wouldn't count on SACD as a format delivering whatever music or musicians you want to listen to. It will take years if ever that you get what you want on any other format than CD.

If you are only interested in playing cd's, then the Wadia for sure. If SACD's are in your near future, then you're probably best off with the Sony.

The SCD 777es is better sounding than the multi-channel XA777es. I own the former but given the choice I would opt for them in this order
1) Wadia
2) Krell
3) Sony
Unless you are looking to mod any of these. Then these suggestions go completely out the window.

Remember, do not buy a source to go with your system, buy a system to go with your source. The source is always by far the most important link in the chain.

It's not that easy, whats the rest of your system? what are you going for in the sound of your system? Why buy a multichannel sacd player if you only want redbook? Help us out a little, (turn off the capital letters). Lots of good redbook players out there for sale.
