reubent---Did you get to see The Dwight Twilley Band live? OMG, the ultimate melding of Elvis and The Beatles! Lead guitarist Bill Pitcock IV (R.I.P.) was really great, getting just about the best guitar tone I’ve ever heard out of a Gibson ES335 plugged into a pair of blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb amps with an MXR digital delay between them, creating the slap-back echo heard on Sun Records Rockabilly recordings. "Trying To Find My Baby" on Twilley Don't Mind just KILLS me! Really rockin’ group of Tulsa boys!! |
@bdp24 - Nope, never saw Dwight Twilley Band. But based on your description, I wish I had seen them....
|
Focus III - Cool stuff. Not quite sure what genre this falls in. Is it Prog, Fusion? Don't know, but I'm digging' it....

What's on my turntable "this morning"?
I'm auditioning a couple of audio components, so I pulled out a couple of high quality records for the initial auditioning.
Huge Masekela - Hope
I played the Analogue Productions 180Gr 45 rpm double LP. Of course, it sounds excellent. Really one of the finest sounding LPs I've heard. And musically - the band was spot on.
Dave Mason - Alone Together
I played the 1995 MCA Heavy Vinyl Remaster. Very nice. Great album and this LP is a very nice version of it. Found a new copy in the bin at Half Price Books. It was a great find.....

Today was record store shopping day for me. I went to 4 local record stores looking for some bargains. Here are the first 2 on my TT tonight:
Elton John - "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player" - Didn't like it. Way too pop'y and it sounds pretty thin.....
Ry Cooder - "Bop Till You Drop" - Well, after reading about the "first" digitally recorded record since 1979, I finally bought it. They had it in the "new arrivals 5/5" bin at Plaid Room Records for $1.99. It was really clean, with no obvious scratches and even the cover was pretty great. I dropped $2 on it and I'm pretty happy about it. Sounds pretty good and I like the music.

the hollies--midas touch. their own songwriting is kind of spotty, but graham gouldman is one of the unsung songwriters of all times and the drummer is surprisingly great go betweens--before hollywood. everyone should run out and buy at least two copies of this record.

teenange fanclub, "i was beautiful when i was alive"--a really strange, brooding tune by their brooding guitarist, raymond mcginley, whose songs are less immediately grabbing than his bandmates', but are ultimately more interesting. the jam, "in the city"--forgot how punk they once were
