Just got in from a 4 day long weekend ski trip and found the LP "Underground Soul" from Houston Person was delivered while I was gone. (Thanks USPS). I found a nice original 1967 mono pressing on eBay and got it for a song IMHO. Anyway, put it on and was very impressed.
For any of you soulful jazz fans out there, Houston Person is THE man. Check out the song "Underground Soul" from his debut 1967 album or his solo on Joey DeFrancesco's - "Live at the 5 Spot" on "Moonlight in Vermont".
Great stuff......

Dave Mason - "Along Together" MCA11319 Re-Issue on 180 Gram vinyl. Very nice!

A great album. reubent. The vinyl of the original 1970 pressing was a "mottled" splatter of colors, gray and pink mostly. Is the reissue as well? Great songs, great musicians (including the amazing drummer Jim Gordon, of Derek & The Dominoes). The actual title is Alone Together. |
@bdp24 ,
Thanks, I made a typo in my post. Of Course it is "Alone Together. The MCA Re-Issue is solid black. It does sound great. |
reubent, bdp24,
I have the same lp. ."Remastered directly from the original master tapes without noise suppression or bass roll-off"... according to the lp jacket
|
reubent,
Is your Yellow Submarine" on yellow vinyl? If so, I have it as well.
|
@slaw ,
Nope. My Yellow Submarine Songtrack LP is on heavy black vinyl. |

Went to my local record store today and picked up the following in the used bins:
Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver Gerry Rafferty - City to City Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel of Love
Paid $3.99 -$4.99 for each. All are in excellent condition and sound pretty fantastic. I've listened to them all this evening. I love my local record store......... |
Nazareth - "Close Enough for Rock 'n' Roll"
|
Gerry Rafferty - City to City |
The Remains "A Session With..."
|
James Mcmurtry and the Heartless Bastards - "Live in Aught Three" .... Again. So Good.......
|
reubent,
It took me those two times to finally check it out. It's in my "wishlist".
How does your "City to City" sound? I put my MFSL copy in my "to sell" pile over a year ago. I've changed a lot since so I'm going to re-listen.
|
@slaw - The Jame McMurty record is a winner IMHO. I'm a huge fan of good Alt-Country and Americana and this one pushes those buttons.
I like "City to City". I'm not thrilled with the sound quality. It sounds a bit thin and the production is nothing special. However, I like the music very much, so I tolerate it.
Happy Weekend! |
Father John Misty "Pure Comedy". If you're a fan, you'll be happy with his latest. Very nice SQ. (I find Sub Pop's QC to be spotty).
|
reubent,
I own "Too Long in the Wasteland" but that's it. I really love great live recordings!
If you haven't already, check out Ryan Bingham. His lps have some noisy pressing issues and are slightly bass heavy but I still enjoy them.
|
Lana Del Rey, Born to Die |
Cannonball Adderley/ Miles Davis - Something Else
|
@slaw - I've got Ryan Bingham's - "Mescalito" on CD. I've only listened to it once, then put it on the shelf for a year or two. I'll try to re-visit it in the next couple of days and let you know what I think of it.

On the TT tonight.....
Nils Lofgren - Acoustic Live - Analogue Productions Re-Issue - Nice!
Pete Townshend - White City - 1985 original pressing
Pete Townshend - Face The Face / Hiding Out 12" Single - This includes the extended live version of "Face the Face" from the short movie - White City

@slaw - Thanks for the reminder regarding Ryan Bingham. I played "Mescaline" last night and I'm listening to it again tonight. It's fantastic. Great Alt-Country/Americana. And the CD recording is very good. Right in my wheelhouse.....
