@confuse_upgraditis - Haven't listened to "Double Vision" in many years. I ned to pull it out and give it a spin next time I'm in a smooth mood....
Yes......this was my Sunday evening....a glass of wine....some smooth jazz....had good time :)
It is on my to-buy list but I was wondering if anyone has/plays Yma Sumak LPs? I have some CDs in my collection but the sound is a bit too "processed" compared to my cassette from the Golden Age. Should I go for the original LPs or recent 180g reissues?
million thanks!!!
I LOVE Self Portrait! I did when it was released, amused (and not surprised) that the Rolling Stone-type reviewers didn't get it. I was surprised by Dylan's literalness in the album title, literalness not something he's prone to. I find it to provide a fascinating look into his influences and tastes. Full of great songs, musicians, and singing. Some of it is heartfelt, some slyly tongue-in-cheek (The Boxer?!).
@bdp24 - I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Self Portrait. I received it as a gift from my wife in a small lot of records she bought at an auction. I wasn't familiar with it and did a Google Search before listening to it. Interesting read about the album on Wiki. I did enjoy it on first listen. Enough that I'll give it another spin soon.

Next up from the gift lot.........

Bob Dylan w/The Band - "Planet Waves"
Oh man, I love Planet Waves, one of my favorite Dylans. Live in the studio, with very little electronic effects (reverb in particular---the recording is very "dry"). After the album was done in early '74, they hit road for a two-month tour, their first together since '66 (The Band at the time known as The Hawks).
@bdp24 - Perfect Waves was very good, really fantastic. I've always liked the slow version of "Forever Young" and every other cut on the album was also enjoyable. This record will go into my regular rotation.....
Lee Moses - "Time and Place" - Wow, fantastic funk/soul/R&B record from 1971. Heard it playing in my LRS today when I stopped in to check the newly stocked used record bins. Unfortunately clean originals are hundreds of dollars, but it's been recently reissued. I bought the reissue......
Elvis Costello and the Attractions - "Imperial Bedroom" - In prep for seeing the Elvis Costello and the Attractions "Imperial Bedroom and Other Chambers" tour in July.
Nico & the Faction / Fata Morgana
Eno / Taking Tiger Mountain
Grateful Dead / Europe 1972 II
Slint / Spiderland
Fantastic Nick Lowe song, reubent. He has a bunch of 'em! Los Straitjackets have a new album entitled What's So Funny About Peace, Love, and Los Straitjackets. The entire album is they performing Nick Lowe songs. LS have been serving as Nick's touring band for a few years now.
@bdp24 - I love Nick Lowe and I've always like the whole "The Rose of England" album. I just saw Nick Lowe a few months ago, but it was a solo show. Really fantastic. Would love to see him backed by Los Straight Jackets. BTW, I just missed Loss Straight Jackets as the backing band for Marshall Crenshaw at a local show last week :~(
Just back from the record store with the following:

Jimmy Smith - Plain Talk
BoDeans - Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams
Joni Mitchell - Don Juan's Reckless Daughter

First up..........

Jimmy Smith
After physical therapy today; I went to Music Direct and picked up my copy of "Bill Evans Trio" ; "Sunday at the Village
Elizium by Fields of the Nephilim. As an incurable PF and Steven Wilson fan I mentioned this masterpiece more than once... only to realize that I do not have an original LP. Received it today, after a thorough wash thru VPI16.5 it got played on my Naim-ed Sondek.  Wow!!! And Wow again! Just wish I spent extra $20 for a Mint copy on Discogs.  but as they say, cheap-skaters pay twice ;-(

Neil Young "White Line"
LInk Wray "Batman Theme"
REM "How the West Was Won and Where it Got Us"
Warren Zevon "Reconsider Me"
Joy Division "Shadowplay"
Little Feat "Cajun Girl"
Rhiannon Giddens "Tomorrow Is My Turn". What A GREAT VOICE! Although most of T Bone Burnett produced lps aren't the best SQ, try to overlook it here!!

David Lindley "Very Greasy"
Ray LaMontagne "Ouroboros"
Angus & Julia Stone "Down The Way"
Joan Armatrading "Show Some Emotion"
Vic Chesnutt "West of Rome"
Beginning to listen through my Flaming Lips "Heady Nuggs" (1994-1997) box set for the second time. Some good stuff!
That was interrupted by ...

Robert Plant "Principle of Moments"
Pinback "Autumn of the Seraphs"

..."until the needle hits the groove"...

Hey "Electric Ladyland" it's been for me lately too!
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.
God Bless Tiny Tim.
The Mothers / Over-nite Sensation. (I am the Slime, etc... :)
