I would like to keep both but the reality is I may not be able to.
of course. The WAVAC is reputedly one of the best out there. So I am of the thought that it would be at least as good as the p135. And could and should be superior. Is there no one out there that might ha tried them both.
Where to now.?
Hello.
I am looking for some advice as to my next move.
I am about to take delivery of some KR Kronzilla monos.
I have had the KR P135 preamp for a while and rate it quite highly. Not the best in any one department but among the most musical and enjoyable I have heard.
my questions are the following.
Is it good enough to to pair with the world renown Kronzillas. My thought process is that KR think so or they would have made something else.
will I get much more if I go for a more highly regarded pre from different manufacturer.
I have an opportunity to also get a WAVAC PRT1 which is very highly regarded
but not sure if it will pair as well over all
love to hear your comments.
thanks.

Congratulations on you purchase, tne KR Kronzilla monos sound like top level amps. I have to agree with @chayro, get a good 500 or more hours an them with your current system before considering your next step. 1,000 hours better. Know the ins and outs intimately before thinking on your next step. Enjoy your upgrade! |
It is wise to be patient and methodical in this scenario. Listen and evaluate how the KR amplifiers and preamplifier work together as a pairing. Your P135 preamplifier is very highly thought of and considered to be very good sounding. Using the DHT 45 tubes is an excellent approach and by many accounts, well implemented. With regard for the Wavac PRT1 preamplifier, is your supposition based upon it’s much more expensive and is better by default? It may or may not be better sounding. Granted it does possess an undeniable intriguing mystique and aesthetic beauty. It’s a circuit based on the 12Au7 tubes and I suspect exceptionally well implemented and has a separate external power supply. Best wishes Charles |
