You went from Harbeth P3's to Compact 7's, and...

There's a nice pair of Spendor SP-100R's on US Audiomart for $3,800 (with stands) that I would jump on if I were in the market for speakers under $6K.

I owned the C7ES3s for almost 3 years and was sorry AFTER I sold them.  Their sound can be near the most pleasing of any speaker I have heard regardless of price.  My room was medium / large and they loved the power of my Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum, an outstanding match.  
Compared to the P3s the 7's sound much bigger especially in the bass, sound stage is super large, slightly richer sounding but still keeps the transparency.  
The C7ES3 are among the best sounding speakers available.  
I have the SHL5+  now and could have been very happy with the 7's had I known better.  

I went from shl5 when I built horn speakers with planar horn twetter and 15inch mid driver (even more dynamic and detailed sound)and still have  dynaudio contour s1.4LE which sounds with krell amp kav500i as  if using premium tube amplifier  

Thanks for the response yogiboy my last set of speakers were Thiel SCS4 which were on the bright side and gave me listening fatigue so these Harbeth seem much more laid back to me. Also both in my amp and preamp I use nos mullards which add some warmth. And the detailed part about them I love.

I found them overly detailed to a point of fatiguing. I prefer the warmer sound of the standard model. I gave them a try for about two months and I just could not enjoy them. Many of the reviews rave about them but they just did not do it for me! Many might like them but they were not my cup of tea!

Yogiboy what did you not like about the p3 anniversary model?  I've never heard the regular p3s so I have nothing to compare them with. 

I want something a little more convincing with hard rock ( Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, Tom Petty...) than the P3’s were. Not a great Rock speaker in an absolute sense because I’m looking to stay small, but again, more capable than the P3’s. I also would like to stay around $2500 used, so a smaller "A" series Spendor could be the one. I even thought about Vandersteen 2 CE Sig II's, but I don’t want to bother with bi-wiring, and no provision for Banana Plugs. I want to use my A23 (banana terminated) SC, and plug them right in. I hate to admit it, but resale is also a factor. So not to cloud the waters, I could see going larger, but do want to stay in the $2500 range.

Had C-7s for many years—loved them. Went to Daedalus and never looked back. They do everything the Harbeths do but better—scale, dynamics, detail. Check out the Muse Studio for a small floorstander that will fill the room!

I can't imagine getting rid of my P3ESRs!  I have them in my small computer room and they sound better than anything else I've had in here, ranging from Klipsch Heresy to Canton Vento 9.2 DC, to Focal 1008 BE and a few others.  I have a small subwoofer to add some bottom end and in terms of detail and sound quality, this is the best system I have. 

I have Harbeth Super HL5 Plus in my main system.  It's a much bigger room where I listen at higher volumes.  The Super HL5 Plus are more dynamic and up to that task.

The older Proac Response line was a superb match with low-powered tube amps.  Find one in good condition and get a bigger and better sound for less $$.

A few years ago I made that same change. I ended up going back to the P3. I recently bought the new P3 anniversary edition and sold them because I preferred the original model. I have also owned a few Spendor floor standers including the A5R . If you want an all tube integrated I doubt you will go wrong with the Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum! BTW, that Croft has preamp outputs. Keep the Croft and get a tube power amp!
