I have somewhat of the same setup in my HT system; with a 50 inch Sony TV in the middle. I have the 1.6 ribbons on the inside, rather than the outer edge of the speakers. Paired with a REL subwoofer, they sound great. I would still think you would want some space between the speaker and the TV though (at least a foot, more might be better). I have mine about 5 feet out from the wall and aprox 18 inches in front of the TV. When I want to listen to music only I put a heavy blanket over my TV set.
Count me in on a similar setup with 1.6's and gear in the middle. Like Cmo says, you get better results if you can pull the speakers in front of the tv or other gear. Maggies throw a big soundstage and I haven't found having gear in the midle causes big problems. One thing I have found to help noticeably was the addition of a pair of Jon Risch's DIY "rooms lenses" behind the speakers. Check out the pictures of these at the Planar Speaker Forum/Magggie user group on Audioasylum's website.
What a waste of a good speaker. I really have to laugh when I look at the systems posted on the Gon with big ole honking TVs between the speakers. What a joke. Sure it's good for movies, but don't fool yourself into thinking you are hearing music the way it should be. Even if what you propose is an all out HT setup, it's still a waste of a good pair of Maggies.

Oh Gosh, @#@!&** (much hand wringing).............. Don't tell me. My HT system sounds like crap, I've just wasted a bunch of money on a pair of Maggies, and I did'nt even know it......

Thanks for the heads up Ozzy!!!!

UHHUM......... Contrary to the above, the Maggies sound pretty damn good. I'd say go for it. (Just don't invite our friend Ozzy over for a listen).
