Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD

Hi All.

Putting together a reference level system.
My Source is predominantly standard 16/44 played from a MacMini using iTunes and Amarra. Some of my music is purchased from iTunes and the rest is ripped from standard CD's.
For my tastes in music, my high def catalogues are still limited; so Redbook 16/44 will be my primary source for quite some time.

I'm not spending DCS or MSB money. But $15-20k retail is not out of the question.

Upsampling vs non-upsampling?
USB input vs SPDIF?

All opinions welcome.

And I know I need to hear them, but getting these ultra $$$ DAC's into your house for an audition ain't easy.

Looking for musical, emotional, engaging, accurate , with great dimension. Not looking for analytical and sterile.

Now I'm seriously considering trying an Sotm sMS-1000SQ which come with tX-USBexp as standard USB output, added sCLK-EX clock for the tX-USBexp for ultra low jitter clock. Then ALSO use an external TX-USB-Ultra to reclock again as suggested by Sotm.

120gb SSD for the Os.

And I also need an SPS-1000 power supply, or better yet, an SR-7 Paul Hynes power supply.

MQA compatible. Comes standard with Roon and JRiver and can add HQ Player if requested.

I am also arranging some time with the SGM with Al's generous assistance.

I also opened a dialogue with Neil of Music Vault at several of your requests. Let's see where that goes. But what a nice guy!!!!!!
ctsooner.......you mentioned the new Bonamassa recording....how is the sound quality?  I'm a huge JB fan but the sonics are pretty poor on all of the recordings I have.

TD
TD, I listened to JB at Carnegie recording thru Tidal last night and the SQ is very good, actually excellent.
I too feel it's excellent throughout Tidal.  They really miked it nicely. I went into the hall as soon as they opened it as I was so excited to see him in person finally and to share it with my wife.   The musicians he had were a who's who.  Tina Guo is one of the best cellists going right now and she plays everything. I've started to follow her on Instagram.  There are so many songs where the string just bites through everything.  When they dual on one of the cuts, it's so edgy, but not fatiguing like so many rock recordings.

I guess he does everything himself from renting the halls, to marketing the shows to doing his own recordings. He owns it all out of J&R Industries in FL.  He was very smart not to sign away his work and he's very smart in the way he runs the business. I sure he has a partner or manager who does it for him.

No thread hijack here.  Matt, I can't wait for you to get all the toys you are about to get into your room.  You can share when you want, but it's a veritable list of who's who in servers and so many have been mentioned already.  Talk about putting your money/ears where your mouth is....wait, ears/mouth switch....Oh well, back to servers.
I have had a few Ready made Server/network players. Decided on building my own Using HDplex Power Supply and Sotm Cards, Turned out to be better than my 10K Of the shelf network player. Sold that and now have 2 I use.
