Tekton Double Impacts

Anybody out there heard these??

I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft.  Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs.  For the vast majority of music I love this system.  The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so.  For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer.  Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's.  Really don't want to deal with that approach.

Enter the Double Impacts.  Many interesting things here.  Would certainly have a different set of strengths here.  Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.

I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that.  Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers

Thanks.

I saw a mention of a picture of the Double Impact SE had been captured, but I couldn't find any link anywhere. Can anyone confirm that the drivers are or aren't scanspeak for the array? Do I have to move to the mini ulfberts to get the better quality drivers?
@mac48025  Tom, I went with Mercedes Diamond Silver Metallic (the silver has a subtle light blue hue). More importantly, my wife approved the selection.

Yes, I do have testing tracks. If anyone has any additional suggestions, please share.

The USB cables are:

- Wireworld 7 Platinum Starlight
- Purist Audio Design Ultimate
- Audience Au24 SE
- Cardas High Speed Clear

I've done two days with the Wireworld, and wrapping up the second day with the Purist.

Synergy with components is so important and since I have a new DAC on order and a possible server/renderer option...deciding on which one will be the best fit is obviously tricky (perhaps a crapshoot at this time).

This is the first round of comparisons. I'll choose my top choice and then bring in another 4.
@mac48025 Haha hey just noticed your recommendations from yesterday. Once I'm done my rotation at work, I have two days at home before I'm in another house but it's not every day the owner of a company offers his support. I'll take him up on it in the new shack.  And thank you.

@evolvist My very basic understanding is mostly what you have explained in terms of reduced dynamics top and bottom. This reduces the frequency extremes as well as the loudness swings.

I do understand a lot of recordings are actually produced and mastered on purpose to sound like this as well.

The interesting part is as I’ve mentioned before, when there is an enjoyable recording, life is good and I couldn’t imagine them sounding any better, bass response included.

But I’m really thinking my specific room set up has to have issues besides the relatively easy fixes (Wall/window coverings, risers etc) I’ve been in this house for over 4 years and have been through at least 5 sets of speakers but here’s the kicker...all of my two channel systems have been upstairs in a totally different room layout including hardwood floors.

This is the first time I’ve run any speakers in this specific room. So...we’ll see what happens in the new house and go from there. Can’t wait.

Out of curiosity, when you say you suspect you may not be getting realistic bass response, are you referring to output or clarity or...?

And thanks again for the info. I can’t believe the amount of info in this thread. It’s like a DI owner’s manual. 👍

@mac48025

I am currently listening to the new Electrons. Not sure I liked the Western Electric 10ga with them. I believe you used them? I found them a bit harsh on top and lean in upper bass, lower midrange. Then again when I came up with this assessment as I was still breaking in the Tektons. I once borrowed a set of CT GE speaker cables for 2 months. They were too laid back for my speakers at the time, but I can see them working GREAT with the DI’s or Electrons.

I am currently using the Wireworld Eclipse 5.2 and they seem to have a nice balance with the Electrons.
