DIY Class D amps

Hi Everyone,

Turns out Parts Express has started selling new ICEpower modules. I am a big fan, but I thought I would put together a few resources if any of you want to DIY an amp or 2.


Parts Express is selling ICEpower modules and power supplies. Make sure you check whether your module comes wiht a power supply or not.

Of course, check the specific ICEpower module works in the spefic case.

I have no financial interest, but I do think more audiophiles should DIY their own solutions now and then. Please enjoy, and if you find a source for Pascal or other fancy units let me know.

Thanks, Eric.  Do you have a preference between the Hypex Ncore and the Ghent ICE monoblocks?   They are close in price.

@dgarretson - I wish I had a chance to listen to the Hypex but I really have not. 

Allegedly, based on spec, Hypex has a lower output impedance across the range so in theory it should be better for particularly difficult loads like electrostatics.

I placed an order today for the Hypex 400W Ncore monos kit. It was appealing that with this kit, I might later try substituting a linear PS like Paul Hynes in place of the stock SMPS.  My current amps are Pass XA160.8 monos.
