Jazz for aficionados

Jazz for aficionados

I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.

Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.

The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".

"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.

While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.

Enjoy the music.

Never heard of the young lady but she sure has a lot to say! Thanks .

Rok, if you ever have any opinions against war, you had better keep them to yourself if you're at the VA. Doctors can make bad things happen to you, they follow orders; I don't know who gives the orders, ask the eye in the sky.

I have nothing against war.   Some of humanity's finest hours happened during war.   And sometimes war is the only solution to the problem.   And don't forget the major advances in social situations, science and medicine that happen during war.

Also, the climate / environment is in crisis.   The greatest cause from humans, is over population.   There are too many people on this planet.   War helps with that also.

Cheers

Btw, I never go to VA Doctors / hospitals.   There is a special medical license that limits a doctor's practice to, Indian Reservations, Federal prisons and the US Military.    'Nuff said
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhvWZ62oVXg mary_joGreat statement " you are not talking about the one who escalated the war in Vietnam are you" in response to the describing Lyndon Johnson as the person who did the most for blacks. I noticed no response to that!!
O10 -  I agree with most of your sociological statements. The politicians in control of this country pit individuals against each other with labels like liberal and conservative and the general population falls for it.  meanwhile the rich and large corporations control this country Lock Stock & Barrel. The rich get richer and the poor and the middle class get drunk.
your example of your example of President Kennedy helping blacks that you personally knew was a good one. He was probably the first president to push for civil rights and had he lived he probably would have been the one to sign the Civil Rights bill. Why can't others accept that?
