Who else here is frugal?

If I had to describe myself as an audiophile in one word, I'd like it to be frugal. Iconoclast may also be right, but if I'm different it may be due to being frugal.  There used to be a TV show called The Frugal Gourmet. To paraphrase him, the food he cooked wasn't necessarily cheap, but he'd get as much value as he could out of what he was doing.

Being an iconoclast doesn't hurt either. Listening for yourself and buying what you like, regardless of what reviewers say and how expensive something is also points us towards this.

What about you? Do you feel better saving money than spending it? Then tell us about yourself. :)

I have the feeling to confess and you give me absolution....:)
Thanks... :)
What is my penance father, for "not being in tune" ?
Squeak Squeak Squeak, My hand can't get to the wallet because the other one stops it...Most of the time. Cheap no, Thrifty, yes. Overboard about every 10 years...Let's see I sold a kidney, if I do a cornea, I can still listen with one eye, right...Ok skin graft, ouch where is that gonna come from...Might get a new C2700 or something...Just have to
stand for a while for that one...

Yup yup..
I've pursued a 1000 paths in life, some by choice, some by circumstance, some by the whims of the universe throwing me like a rag doll through the maelstrom of chaos. Grew up poor, fortune has risen, fallen and risen again in my life, I toured in bands, worked in record companies, worked the trades, written software that made the first 25 years of the internet awesome, shared a prison cell with one of the finest, most humble men I've ever known, served as both tool and foil to men whose wealth ran upwards of 10 figures, friends, foes, and women have come and gone, traveled to six continents and some 30 countries. Through it all music and the beauty of the written word have pulsed as heart and served as brain, respectively. In so far as frugality...?

I've been a wise fool and a brilliant idiot on that count. Suffice to say, I've been a flagrant wastrel but have sucked every drop of value from life's teat that I can get. To whit; some spend countless dollars chasing the mirage always just ahead. For many years I either made my own music, enjoyed others live or listened to their myriad amazing systems as a lucky room mate. These days my life is a much calmer one, far from the madding crowd. I have been building my own muse with a pair of practically new Cornwall IV's for 30% less than new and will shortly take possession of a Luxman L-509x that was very gently used for an excellent price (l demoed one and found it to be truly transcendent with the Cornwalls). I intend to acquire a superb DAC hopefully for <$1500 and a streamer source of equal pedigree. With these I shall spend years in musical-opiate delerious happiness for a sum far less than many spend pursuing their own ideals of perfection.  I am profoundly content with my path and respectfully care not for theirs ( beyond the virtual camaraderie shared here), therefore I feel I can say yes, I am frugal, finally.
