Separates. Easy to change and upgrade.
Which Would You Prefer
If you were to choose between an “all in” audio system comprised of loudspeakers, dsp, dac, adc, streaming, and amplifiers with various inputs (digital and analog) would you choose an “embedded” design where all electronics are inside the speaker enclosures so in essence you only have two power lines and multiple line level cables running to the inputs of one speaker (the master) or a “preamp” design with a central “box” for all inputs and a single line level input cable into one speaker I.e. the master? Looking to build one or the other.

I would prefer this. Only with new speakers. https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/8367 Oh wait- I just got new speakers! Nevermind. |
This hobby is all about mixing and matching equipment to listen for the differences and although we say once we get it right we’re done, we really never get done. I spent a few years listening to $20k+/- speakers with some solid components and after awhile I realized that to truly get the system to sing as one would expect I would have to seriously upgrade my components and cables, I chickened out and went with the Meridian dsp 8000 and se upgrade. It got to the point that demoing speakers was pointless because they sounded completely different once home, at least with dsp speakers they generally have room correction programmed in them so room interaction is minimal and we don’t have to worry about our components playing nice. |
