Room size for hi end speakers. Too small??

I think that I had a lot of trouble because of ceiling height.

My room is about your size. I had a set of 803s. I had to listen a little louder than I liked to get the B&Ws to open up. I now have Focal Kanta 3s & they sound way better at lower volume. 

Is that the 6.5 foot ceiling post? That is tough.

At 7.5 unless OP is 6.5" with a real tall torso. It's not a bad size. The bass you're gonna have to be careful.  As much room treatment, as you can stand. Get the speakers away from boundaries.  Open a window. :-)

It won't pressure the room so bad.

16x12 is just fine.  The 7.5 ceiling may be a challenge though.
But you don't say how it's furnished and whether surfaces are soft or hard.
