Great sounding active speaker Line would be ATC , would need to buy used, as much as you can afford !!!

I second used meridians! they have been doing active dsp a long time and are very easy to use after set up. The used prices are dirt cheap but and the sound is natural. 

Since no one mentioned Salk, I will. High quality manufacturer, smaller company, based in Michigan, well-reviewed, responsive over email or phone, 30 day trial, beautiful to look at. I own some passive speakers and had a great experience with the company owner and products.
