thumb drive for source?

I was wondering if I could use a thumb drive with recorded music by just plugging in it into my sim audio moon 300dv2 dac? I would like to try it to see how it compares with my transport to dac combo. So I was wondering if it was possible or do I need to add something to try it? I am sure the challenge may be not controlling the music on it remotely but that is ok in a test to me. This seems like kind of an inexpensive way to test the waters of a different source other than vinyl or cd disc. Thanks for any helpful input.

Yes. I have a cable that goes from the a to b. I don't think it will hurt anything so I think I will try it. Thanks
Hi cd318 thanks. That was my thinking about doing this. I have heard it can be an improvement without all the stuff that goes on from the transport to the dac. My cd transport is a Theta Pearl which is quite old but never had any problems at all. It has that stable platter. But I thought maybe I might get some type of improvement worth going in a different direction for my source. Just thinking outside the box I guess.
Sadly, no.

The USB connector is as a DAC only.  It doesn't know how to look at a file system.
I'll put a thumb drive into my laptop and route the laptop to my Mytek Brooklyn.  Sound is just fine, if definitely of mid-fi mp3 ilk.  Wait a second!  Is it because most of them are mp3's in the first place?????
