Diffusers. 1d vs 2d? Source?

So maybe scattering of sound via 2d diffuser may no be so good since it bounces sound upward across flat untreated ceilings,  so would 1d (lateral diffusion) be better?  And seems 1 d diffusers are hard to find.  Any sources?
