If this would have happened to me, I would have been similarly unimpressed. It's obvious that Emotiva needs to tighten up their procedures at the warehouse, or demote someone.
Whoever returned a unit with chocolate all over the remote should face a restocking fee, and a free membership to the "not allowed to buy at Emotiva again" club.
I am no fan of Emotiva, but personally I would be willing to give them one more chance, the next time I was shopping. But probably not a B stock or factory refreshed again.
In my case, they burned through my goodwill with a cd player that would freeze up, a preamp/dac that was unusable as a preamp, and then an amp whose sonics were only the equal of a receiver.
