Custom plinth

I'm with mijostyn on this. Veneer is not worth the effort. My ply has a 1/3" slab of solid walnut on top and the sides are 1/2" solid maple.

I am not a fan of veneer as thin as that used on the project. However Veneer has been used for 150 yrs that I know of. I’m sure longer, but I’ve never researched it. The difference is thickness. Apparently , you have veneer on your TT also. Its just thicker. BTW, I bet your veneer also comes together at the corners.

If properly cared for, this plinth will last a long time...maybe as long as solid wood. he guarded it well with a good finish which has some thickness to it. Polyurethane is a great finish for veneer.
I'm a fan on mahogany. I used to own a fair number of pieces of old English furniture covered in that wood. One of my Gretsch drumsets is finished in old-growth Brazilian walnut, no longer available.
