Is your heart filled with a love of music, or something else?

I was dismayed by much of what was being said in a very recent, now deleted thread. Many of the statements made were not just pretty extreme, but also filled with visceral hatred. The Matthew 6:24 passage in the Bible came to mind: "No one can serve two masters." Can a heart so filled with hatred be open to the beauty of music?

This world can be a brutal, ugly place. My friends and I retreaded from the horrific events of 1968 (and the mentality which lead to them) by totally immersing ourselves in music, tuning out the outside world. Unfortunately, the U.S.A. seems far worse to me now than it did then.

I take refuge and find solace in the music contained in my LP and CD library, and am very thankful for living in a time when music may be heard via recordings at the touch of a button---a very recent development, in terms of man’s entire history. How fortunate are we?!

Isn’t it enough to share the love of music---and the equipment that allows us to hear it in our homes, enough for us all here? Why spoil that with talk of matters less satisfying to our souls? I was pleased to see that many of my favorite Audiogon members refrained from joining the referred to conversation.

Most intelligent and emotionally balanced people just want to be left alone, but that is near impossible in the world as it is today.
All these ism's....
Now even silence is violence :)
I am grateful for the music, kept me going throughout this last year. Learned quite a many things.
I have always loved music, whether live or recorded.  It's a marvelous creation by the human species.  But music ain't everything.  We all live on a single large rock with limited resources and the competition for those resources can get very, very vicious.  For all its beauty music cannot change that.  It's can be hard not to despair.  As a species are we going to let the most greedy, most vicious, most power hungry and the most hate-filled amongst us triumph?  All over the world guitars are gently weeping.
I am completely addicted to music it fills most hours of my day and helps keep me sane. I also enjoy the equipment that makes it possible. That's why I joined this site over 20 years ago and I've been fairly dismayed at the turn it's taken the last 5 years or so. I hope we can get back to discussing music and gear amicably and little else.
I wrote this a few weeks ago. it is still true

I do not see this as a hobby. for me it is a lifestyle. I have enjoyed music and bought my 1st record at about 8 yrs old. (62 yrs ago) I play music, (drums & vocals) as well and have since early teens.
My musical system is a vehicle used to transport my lover. I enjoy her presence whether she rides in on a bicycle or a Bentley. I like it immensely when she comes in the Bentley or Maserati or Ferrari because I get to take a fabulous road trip with her. But if she comes on the bike, that’s alright with me because its her presence that counts the most.
There is another Biblical scripture that is more bothersome than the one you put forth. Often attributed to Abe Lincoln, it was actually Jesus who said, " And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand."
