Cary SLP-98 tape out question

I sometimes run the Cary preamp into an integrated amp by using its tape out connectors.  I've found out the Cary unit doesn't need to be turned on in this mode in order for the signal to reach the integrated amp.

I've used the tape out function on various preamps and never realized the pre didn't need to be turned on to use it that way.

Is this normal for all preamps with the tape out function or something unique to the Cary?

So then you are not using the Cary as a pre and it is simply a pass through on the ape out. 
Much like the sub out on a Raven integrated.

All you’re using is the selector SW.
A whole lot of expensive circuitry for nuttin’.
Impressive.
To officially go down that road, dump the Cary and go passive.

I've got one integrated amp that I use in rotation (300b).  I've got several amps that I use the Cary as a preamp so I'll stick with it.

I was just surprised that the signal passed through without it being turned on.

Same on a lot of the analog systems. I'm sure the old Macs, Fisher, D Pass, HHScott, Marantz, most if not all were that way. As long as there is NOT a relay requiring current to complete a circuit.. N.O. relay is normally open right.. The switch can remove the ground on a N.O relay to close the circuit too. Another way to reduce noise and arc/pops..

The difference is NO static because of a dirty contact on a push button or flip of a switch. The relay works BETTER and requires a LOT less maintenance in the long run..  It can also be encased in a non O2 environment to increase life and decrease arc/fire

I checked a C20, C11, and a MX110 all were switched. Flip the switch they would do the same thing.. No power required. There are a few function that don't require power, Tape to Tape without EQ is one, you just have to flip the right switches and turn the right knobs, ay

Sure fire way to cure ED.. LOL at least while I'm cranking the engine..

Passive.. my hinder side.. GIVE me knobs and ways in and out.. :-)
I'm an X smoker I gotta' keep my hands busy.. Has been 35 year though.

Maybe I'd give up a standby switch, on the second phono stage how's that.. LOL
