First tube preamp recommendations (under $5k)

Right now have di20he -> terminator -> he9 -> pass x350.8 -> ATC scm7 / NS5000.
I am thinking of introducing some tubes into my chain. I like the sound I am getting but want to explore what tubes can do to the sound (slight warmth, biggest soundstage, better layering etc etc). Don’t want to go to nuts on price. If price is over $5k would consider if its really exceptional (but for sure not over $10k). Totally fine with used. Balanced would be nice but not mandatory.
So far I am thinking RP7, EVO400, bhk. Any thoughts?

Guys I have an EVO400 that came up locally... $4200 CAD
Also dealer selling ARC Ref 5 (consignment) $6900 CAD
Thoughts?

Seriously a REF5 for $6,900CAD? I’d jump on that without a second thought.

Another option is Aric audio. Mother load 2 or special 6sn7. Looks to be well made.

It would be worth your time to give a call to Aric.

I am very happy using a earlier version of his Special 6SN7 driving a Pass XA25. I understand the Mother Load to be outstanding. It is not in my price bracket however.

@mesch ya I had a long talk with Aric. He is an awesome guy. What I don't know is if ML2 will be competitive or better than stuff like a used VAC Ren V or ARC Ref 5.
