1. Most probably.
2. Sure can with just a server/streamer or a media player/streamer. You just need something besides USB or i2s output.
CD Transport or media server/streamer
Hi All,
I have an older system that I purchased about 17-18 years ago. My system consists of a Krell KPS 20i (integrated transport & processor), Krell KRC-3 preamp, Krell FPB 300 amplifier, and Wilson Watt Puppy 5.1 speakers with all drivers upgraded except for the mid. I still really like the sound of this system.
Recently the cd player (KPS 20i) has started skipping on tracks rather badly at times. If I keep it on for a couple of hours or more before I use it the skipping seems to go away on most CDs. From what I have read I’m thinking this may be the laser or tracking in the transport failing.
Questions:
Can I connect an external transport only to the KPS 20i and not change the sound too much?
How about a music streamer or server, can these be connected to the KPS 20i?
I would like to keep the budget for any new gear at $1000 or under. All suggestions, recommendations, information is highly appreciated.
Since your Krell has digital inputs, as others have indicated you can still use it as a DAC. It will probably sound like it always did with a decent transport, say Cambridge Audio or Project, for under a grand. If you go the Bluesound Vault route you do get a ripper transport DAC and storage all in one. My Bluesound units have mostly mechanically failed after around 4 years of use so personally I would stick to buying the transport and then you don’t have to burn the CDs to listen to them |
we are streamer srrver and dac specialists
you hava a few options:
1:get a NEW DAC USE BLUESOUND TO FEED IT NOT RECOMENDED BLUESOUND MAKES A MEDEOCRE STREAMER COMPARED TO MANY SERVERS OR STREAMRS. ALSO MOST DACS SOUND BETTER THROUGH USB. 2: GET A STREAMER WIYH DAC THAT IS ALSO A ROON ENDPOINT A LUMIN CAN READ ANY UPNP SERVER PURCHASE A ROON CORE /ENDPOINT AND DAC
THIS SOLUTION WILL SOUND THE BEST AND CAN EASILY ACCESS THE BLUSOUND DEVICE BUT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE
