Speaker pairings for Sprout 100 for music listening in medium sized room

I'm helping a friend move quickly away from old Bose 301 speakers and an old Panasonic receiver. He wants a setup that "lets me hear a standup bass right in the center of my room."

Budget about $3k overall -- integrated, streamer, speakers.

He's purchased the Sprout 100 as a first move. For a newbie, this seems like good bang for the buck and doesn't box him in too much for speaker choices. He has no sub, yet, but is open to one.

What have you heard that pairs well with the Sprout 100 for jazz and rock -- such as the Grateful Dead? If you have a speaker sub combo idea, that's great too.

He's not an audio forum guy, so I'll be reporting back to him with whatever ideas folks come up with, here.
