I have never heard a system with the SLP 05 before. I do own the Supratek Cabernet and really like it. What has drawn you to those two preamps? I’m a fan of Dennis Had, always loved the Cary stuff I heard. FYI, he has a new preamp that he sells under his own name on eBay. The initial reports I’ve read are very positive.

Has anyone heard the two above or owned them? I know there is a price difference but would like to know which one sounds better. There is the saying that the user is the judge of the sound in their system but on the other hand there is always another person opinion and their perception. Thanks.

I have an SLP 05. No need to hear a Supratek. Dynamic as heck. Check. Smooth as all get out. Check. Immersive atmospheric sound stage. Check. Plenty of inputs including 2 balanced. Check. Balanced outs. Check. Museum quality aesthetics. Check. Responsive customer service. Check. Engaging, glorious sound. Check. |
One thing about the Supratek is that they have a lifetime guarantee. I expect the Cary sounds excellent. I own a Supratek Cortese, which is a higher priced model than the Chardonnay. It is wonderful. You probably won't go wrong with either one. You might enjoy paging through the old "Preamp Deal of the Century" thread. 26 million page views, over a period of about 20 years. |
