SET Distortion at higher volumes?

If my SET amp is running out of power with my 96db speakers, does it create distortion that sounds like a record mistracking? I'm trying to track down an issue I'm having at anything over medium levels. I'm getting a high end distortion. Happens at high frequency or energy vocal and horn and piano passages.

Problem solved. Tonearm issue. Thanks, these responses directed me elsewhere.

I am happy that you sorted it out. As with other posters here I was skeptical about assuming it’s the SET amplifier at the heart of the issue. I use an 8 watt SET amplifier paired with 94 db (14 ohm) speakers. The sonic strengths of this are the purity, naturalness and ease. Yet at the same time very lively, engaging with good dynamic contrast.

@dhcod glad to hear your found a problem and it wasn't a head scratcher.  your amp distorting with 96dB speakers would have been, assuming non-concert volumes.

SET amps are most linear when they are operated at 25% of their rated power: ie 2 watts for an 8 watt 300B. Distortion rises rapidly after that. I have three: a 45, a 2A3 and a 6BG6. They await a suitable speaker after I sold my Heresy's.
